Audio Review : Kaal - Slick, Stylish and very Modern

Producer: Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar
Director: Soham Shah
Cast: Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi, John Abraham, Lara Dutta, Esha Deol, Malaika Arora
Music: Salim-Sulaiman
Singers: Sonu Nigam, Kunal Ganjawala, Sunidhi Chauhan, Richa Sharma, Kailash Kher

Kaal is a joint production venture of Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar. This is the much-anticipated supernatural thriller by Soham Shah, a debutante director setting his foot into filmdom for the first time. Playing the male protagonist in the film are Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi, John Abraham not to mention Shah Rukh Khan who appears only for a song. Lara Dutta, Esha Deol and Malaika Arora feature amongst the heroines.

The film has music by the talented duo Salim-Sulaiman. They’ve created background score for films like Hum Tum, Dhoom and Aitraaz and have casted an overwhelming impact. Initially they were approached for the background score for this movie but they managed to bag the music score too. The lyrics are by Shabbir Ahmed & Jeanne. Kaal boasts of slick, stylish and very modern music.

The album takes off on a funky note with ‘Tauba Tauba’. The tune of the song is simple but striking and highlights the musical insight of the composer Salim-Sulaiman. Sonu Nigam, Kunal Ganjawala, Sunidhi Chauhan and Richa Sharma do a spellbinding rendition. But the show stealer is none other than Bob and co. who enacts the rap portion of the song. The track is one of a kind and is surely to be embraced for its uniqueness.

Another item number follows in the league of the first one ‘Kaal Dhamaal’. A smashing and energetic composition from the closet of Salim-Sulaiman. Kunal Ganjawala further engineers the song to perfection.  Accompanying him are Ravi ‘Rags’ Khote, Caralisa and Salim. This fast upbeat track is to be featured on Shah Rukh and Malaika Arora. If the music hasn’t taken your breath yet, the video definitely will!

The remix of the former track appears as ‘The Tiger Mix’ by Bobby Friction. Another remix appears as ‘The Infinite Scale’ making the soundtrack more resounding and likeable.

Anand Raj Anand takes over with ‘Nassa Nassa’ a foot thumping and heart pumping number. With a jumble of western and bhangra and the lively voice of Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan, this number also goes for a great hearing. The lyrics are by ARA himself.

The mood to boogie continues with subsequent ‘Ankhiyan Teriya Ve’ from our very dear Kailash Kher. The track has lyrics by the talented singer. The fusion of western and sufi music enriches the flavour of the track.

Karan Johar has come with different strata of music for this film, but the outcome is nevertheless enjoying and refreshing. You cannot get the words more right for the otherwise ‘Jungle Mix’ that is really wild and wacky and great too. It appears as a background score for the movie.

For the ones who have begun thinking that Karan Johar is not in his actual self, here is ‘Dharma Mix’. No points for guessing that the track features hits from KKHH, K3G and KHNH.  Hear Pretty Woman, Bole Chudiyan, Shava Shava and Mujhko Kya Hua Hai in one single track. Though the album comes to a close with this track, the party still continues.

The music of Kaal clearly stands out and deserves to be a chartbuster. This is truly a kind of music that belongs to the higher category and every body associated with it deserves the credit. Watch out for the energy flowing in the tracks may sweep you off your feet too!
