Movie Review : Chakram

Producer: Siva Raju, Venkat Raju
Director:Krishna Vamsi
Cast:Prabhas, Asin, Charmi
Music:Chakri

‘Chakram’ has on the lead mass hero Prabhas, Asin and Charmi. Siva Raju and Venkat Raju are jointly producing the movie under Geetha Chitra International banners. Krishna Vamsi is directing the film. The film has music by Chakri and for the first time the two are coming together. The film got released on the 25th of March and is presented by C. Ramesh Babu.

The plot of this film has many twists and turns. Chakram (Prabhas) and Lakshmi (Asin) love each other. They’re flourishing doctors staying abroad. On returning back home their families announce their marriage. But Chakram doesn’t agree to it readily and says that after he fulfills his ambition of building a super specialty hospital for the poor he’ll marry Lakshmi. All of a sudden he disappears on the eve of the marriage leaving a letter that he doesn’t want to marry. He goes to Hyderabad and tries to sort out the problems of the residents of that area. Sometime later Lakshmi learns about his whereabouts and sends the information to his father.  Chakram’s father insists him to marry Lakshmi but he just shrugs off the matter telling that he is not interested. His father’s persuasion though makes him obey him. Fate strikes a blow again when on the day of wedding he receives the news that he is suffering from blood cancer and he has very limited days in hands to survive. Henceforth an emotional saga follows. At the end he dies and his father gives out the message that everybody should laugh and let laugh.

The narration of the film is not top-notch. The direction falters in parts. Too much flashback in the film hampers the flow of the movie. Such direction quality is not expected from a director of Krishna Vamsi cadre. He also handles the screenplay along with Satyanand.

Prabhas anchored a mixed bag of performance, strong in some parts, unimpressive in others.  He has got the zeal and determination, he just needs to put more effort in acting. The other cast in the film including Asin, Charmi Singh, Padmanabham, Prakash Raj, Tanikella Bharani, Mallikarjuna Rao, A.V.S., Raghu Babu, Gautham Raju, M.S. Narayana, Venu Madhav, Srinivas Reddy, Jeeva, Chitram Sreenu, Urvasi, Rajya Lakshmi, Delhi Rajeswari, Ananth, Junior Relangi have given performances as per deserved.

On the technical aspect, dialogues by Satyan are a strong point in the film. They’re catchy and crispy delivering the needed. The choreography is also fascinating with innovative dance movements and novel work. Lyrics by Sirivennela Seetarama Sastri, Chandra Bose and Kodikonda and music of Chakri are worth mentioning and deserves the credit for pleasing the listeners. Stunt Siva didn’t have to do much to do for there is only one stunt scene. But it goes fine too.
