Audio Review : Chakram - Pleases the listeners

Producer: Sivaraju, Venkatraju
Director: Krishna Vamsi
Cast: Prabhas, Asin, Charmy
Music: Chakri
Singers:Sri, Kousalya, Chakri, Shankar Mahadevan

‘Chakram’ stars Prabhas, Asin and Charmi and is directed by Krishna Vamsi. The film has music by Chakri and for the first time the two are coming together. Krishna Vamsi has exerted something different from Chakri in terms of melody and so one may not find the old Chakri music in this film. Lyrics are by Sirivennela Seetarama Sastri, Chandra Bose and Kodikonda.

A very retro styled track is 'Jagamanta Kutumbam'. The song takes us back to an era of meticulous music with substantial lyrics and neat melody. Though it’s behind the times yet there is not a tinge of lack luster in the track. The beats, melody, harmony and the vocals of Sri keep you going in the world long lost. Lyrics by Sitha Rama Shasthry are impressive.

'Koncham Karamga' passes sheer comfort. The song is soft and somber setting you in the milieu of nature. Kousalya in her honeyed vocals give up a rendition in aplomb. The music is supple with bass and violin piece. Chakri as a music director deserves credit for the song.

Something again very unusual is 'Naa Peru Chakram'. This is supposedly the title track of the album. The start is very uncanny with sounds that grab you attention immediately. Follows amusing lyrics rendered by Sri. Well, the song is not something we look from a title track. It’s a situational number and a passé.

Chakri does some crooning for 'Oke Oka Mata'. The song has a soft hue feel to it and however hard Chakri tries, he fails to mould his voice according to it. The song sounds tapered in his voice. Though everything apart from the vocals of Chakri is impressive in the track, one cannot just excuse his unpardonable voice.

A groovy and gyrating track is 'Rangeli Holi' based on Punjabi music. The song is loud and the throaty voice of Shankar Mahadevan gives it the edge. The mirth and the liveliness just bowl you over. Make the best use of it at the dance floors!

The sound track comes to a close with 'Sony Cellphone'. With a light feel, it moves ahead with some absurd lyrics but a good tempo. The guitar lead also keeps the song on hold. This is very much Chakri and those who have been missing him in the album, here is a treat for you!

The music is worth mentioning and deserves the credit for pleasing the listeners. The soundtrack appears very different from Chakri style. It’s no ordinary soundtrack, and so give an ear to the songs before going for it. You won’t be disappointed, that’s for sure!
