Movie Review : Chaahat Ek Nasha

Producer: Umesh Chauhan
Director: Jai Prakash
Cast: Manisha Koirala, Aryan Vaid, Preeti Jhangiani, Sharad s Kapoor, Sayaji Shinde, Snehal Dabbi & Govind Namdeo
Music: Anand Raj Anand

Chaahat - Ek Nasha is Manisha Koirala and director Jai Prakash’s second movie together after Market. Preeti Jhangyani, Aryan Vaid and Sharad Kapoor include the rest of the cast. Well, this love triangle thriller is more on the line of skin show and bold scenes as far as the promos narrate.

Its sad seeing Manisha Koirala in a role that doesn’t fit in the image of a talented heroine. Her plunge into such kind of shady and slimy role doesn’t help much to her already plummeted reputation. What is very obvious is that such sordid films aren’t helping her much career wise too!

Manisha Koirala is Mallika, a pop star with a drowning career.  She is only left to sink herself in drinks and frenzy her boyfriend Rahul (Aryan Vaid), the owner of a renowned music company. She was once crazily in love with him and the guy too wooed her until he decided to marry her. But Mallika refused, on the fact that she doesn’t believe in marriage and wanted to go with the physical relationship between them without the vows of marriage. Steadily her career starts sinking and her album flops.

Rahul is left with no alternative other than to hunt for a new talent. Here he comes across Rashmi (Preeti Jhangiani) a singer and a dancer. She is launched and her album becomes a massive hit. Gradually love croons in their heart and Rahul decides to get into wedlock with her. Much disgusting is when he bad names Mallika in the public with some crass word. Mallika is taken aback with whatever is happening. She asks Rahul to marry her. But it’s already too late for her to amend as Rahul has already committed to marry Rashmi. In desperation, Mallika hires Jaidev (Sharad Kapoor) to eliminate Rahul. She realises her mistake only when Jaidev has set out for the trail!

Manisha Koirala has gone for a chic look in the film and minus her flab she looks fine. She gives a rollicking performance and handles the demanding situations with ease. The trauma and the emotional in swings are portrayed well. Other than her there is not very much to talk about anybody. They’re busier handling the voyeurism that the film demands!

What ruins the film in more than one ways is poor characterization, insignificant voyeurism just for the sake, and insipid everything else. The sequences look forced and the pace of the film really bores you to death. There is no ingredient of novelty. Direction is haywire, cinematography is average, action is all right and music gelling well. Dancing around in skimpy clothes doesn’t make a movie, and our director needs to take care of it from the next time. The lewd aspect squirms you rather than entertaining.
