Pandem is a movie of many pluses. The direction of Sabhapati, cast like Jagapati Babu and Kalyani, the photography and editing all add to the film. How far does the music of Chakri succeed in giving a commendable work!
The only aspect that mars his talent is his habit of picking popular tunes. And he has done something similar earlier and does something such here too. Thus his music only adds to the fervor of the film though it doesn’t triumph singularly. But the six numbers composed by him will surely give you a good time through the movie.
Shankar Mahadevan and Kowsalya open the record with ‘Ammala Ganna Ammalara’. Shankar Mahadevan gives fine rendition with exact amount of modulation. Kowsalya though doesn’t have much to perform. The instrumentation of the track is commonplace but the tune holds it in place.
In the following song Chakri does what he is best in. The song is reminiscent of tracks a decade back. ‘Guppedu Gundala Chappdula’ appears in the voice of Chakri and Kowsalya. She really outdoes with this track. The instrumentation of the song is quite heavy.
Chakri was inspired in the last track but he directly picks one of Ilayaraja’s tunes in ‘Abbayao Vayasu Rammendhi’. Ravi Varma and Sunandha croon the song. As it’s a pick, I don’t think much is ought to be written about it. ‘Ammadu Gummadu’ is a mass song with heavy orchestra again. Simha, Vasu, Mathin, Adharshni croon the song at the height of their vocals. This song also appears like one heard before. Chakri when will you mend your mistakes!
‘Ku Ku Ku’ also doesn’t appear original. Hariharan and Kowsalya render this soft number. The composition is nothing striking.
With lots of pick of former tunes Chakri fails to prove his talents. The songs are pretty average and doesn’t account for a good hearing at all.
