Movie Review : Sankranthi

Producer: R.B Chowdary
Director: Muppalaneni Siva
Cast: Venkatesh, Arti Agarwal, Sneha, Srikanth
Music: S.A Raj Kumar

R.B. Choudury down the ages has made wholesome family entertainers. Following the trend he makes Sankranthi. The movie is the remake of Tamil film Anandam. The film is produced under Super Good Films and is directed by Muppalaneni Siva. In the cast are Venkatesh, Srikanth, Chandra Mohan, Raallapalli, Tanikella Bharani, Prakash Raj, Siva Balaji, Sarvanand, AVS, Venu Madhav, Sudhakar, Raghunath Reddy Duvvasi Mohan, Suman Shetty, ‘Urvasi’ Sarada, Aarti Agarwal, Sneha, Sangeetha, Rati.

Venkatesh has teamed up with director Mupulaneni Siva after the super success of Raja. He and R.B. Choudury have a good track record with family dramas. The film apart from entertainment carries a strong message along with. The message is to rebuild the family system with love and unity and overlook the concept of nuclear families. Along side there is good comedy and music to keep the audience amused. As the movie is a Tamil remake, many changes have been made to suit the Telugu taste.

The film highlights the aspect of all kinds of relation in a family. Chandra Mohan and Sarada have four sons - Raghava (Venkatesh), Vishnu (Srikanth), Chinna (Siva Balaji) and Sarvananad. Raghava gets engaged to Padma (Aarti Agarwal) the daughter of Raghunath Reddy. But the bride’s family disagrees for the marriage when Raghava’s family goes through a lean phase owing to seize of their property by the government to get the roads widened. Raghava and Vishnu work hard for the family and to get their brother educated.

Raghava is so disillusioned with marriage that even with his parent’s pursuance he doesn’t agree to marry. But one fine day he meets Anjali (Sneha) and decides to marry her. They get married. Vishnu too gets married in the meanwhile with the younger sister (Sangeetha) of Padma. But there arises chaos between the daughters-in-law in the family.
There is a rift throughout. But things change when Sangeetha realizes the humanity of the family when she gets 10,00,000 rupees to get her daughter operated.

There is again twist in the tale when Chinna falls in love with Choudary’s (Prakash Raj) daughter (Rati). But the girl’s father is ready for the marriage only if Chinna stays with them. Chinna on discovering it on the day of engagement returns back home with his fiancé. Choudary realizes his foolishness and at last gets them married.

These are the ups and downs that every family faces. But the treatment of the story makes it exclusive. The film is set in the locales of Bhadrachalam. Muppalaneni Siva has done a good job with direction. This is one of the best films from his kitty.

Venkatesh has done variety of roles in his career. With this film and his splendid role he outshines again. Srikanth also deserves words of praise for his extremely fantastic performance. Actress Sarada has made a comeback after a long break. But she too makes her presence felt. Venu Madhav’s comic performance is hilarious. The other actor and actresses also fit the bill and have come with good performances.

S.A. Rajkumar has compiled the audio. The songs are melodious and will be an added factor to the fate of the film. The choreography is by Raju Sundaram, Suchitra and Noble. The exquisite locales and the photography add to the charm. Paruchuri Brothers also owe the credit for the heart touching dialogues. After 300 and more films to their credit they impress again.

The film has high hopes and R.B. Choudury is desperate of it doing well after his Love Today and Vidyarthi have flopped. It’s also an important film for director Siva.
