The New Year is taking a toll all in black with Blackmail and Black. Hoping that the movies flourish selling tickets in black too!  With Blackmail director Anil Devgan is again on the director’s chair. If my memory serves me well last time he was seen there while the making of Raju Chacha. The movie met with ill fate.

Blackmail has maintained a low profile till date. It’s only the promos that are available on the TV screen, but no launch party or any such promotional measure followed to announce its arrival. Starring Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty, Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza, it is a Shyam Bajaj-Narendra Bajaj production, has music by Himesh Reshammiya and lyrics by Sameer. As the name squeals out, it’s certainly an action-thriller, with not much motivational number to follow the sound track. But Himesh Reshammiya is certainly not going to leave you on that note!

With quiet confidence Himesh builds up ‘Maine Dil Tumhe De Diya’ with vocal relish by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. Without being daunted they put up the best. This ardent romantic number bears Himesh trademark. Sameer does as much as required out of him. Gradual tuning to the song will make you fond of it. But the ‘Instrumental’ of the same doesn’t help much to captivate your senses. That’s obvious!

Another romantic duet follows in succession ‘Tune Ki Bekarari’. Though it tries desperately to replicate the former magic, it fails. Shaan, Alka Yagnik and Jayesh vocals an average tune. To cause more traumas, this song repeats for three times. Gosh!

The best number of the song, swelling with melody is ‘Akhiyan Lada Jaa’. Alka Yagnik gives a bubbly swirl while Udit Narayan luster ahead. The composition has musical value and the lyrics are apt. It’s a good job done! This romantic musical number repeats again as a ‘Rhythm’. This time we don’t mind.

Giving a halt to romantic melody flowing so far comes ‘Khaati And Meethi Imli’ in quite extremity. Jayesh and Hema Sardesai do fathomably the sensual overtones. Item numbers have become the need of the hour and you cannot escape it. But this number will impel you to escape it!

‘Kaun Kehta Hai’ is the supple track in the voice of Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghoshal. The impressive vocals and a good composition don’t mind the monotonous lyrics of Sameer.

Blackmail wears a tidy and melodious look. Its only Himesh Reshammiya’s compositions which seems to run into one another. With some jolly good tracks it will endure the quality to be in the scene for sometime.
