After the success story of Raaz, the screen is going to sizzle again with Bipasa Basu and Dino Moreo in Chehraa, a Saurabh Shukla production. The talented Anu Malik with Naresh Sharma, Nikhil Vinay, & Ram Sampath contribute to the music while Sameer, Rahat Indori, Sanjay Chhel and Dev Kohli do the lyrics.
The soundtrack opens with ‘Mausam Ki Izazat’ a composition by Nikhil Vinay, and rendered by Kunal Gunjanwala and Shreya Ghoshal. The romantic mood is uprightly held throughout the song. Everything goes right with the composition and it heads for the very best in the album.
Anu Malik appears for the next track ‘Kabhi Khamosh Baithogi’ with Babul Supriyo and Mahalakshmi doing the singing. Both the singers pull along this romantic track with ease. The words are by the endowed lyricist Rahat Indori. The lyrics may sound repeated to your ears for it already been used once for a Jagjit Singh’s ghazal. The softness of the track and the milky lyrics will give you a soulful experience.
‘Hadh Se Jyada Sanam’ belongs to the league of another romantic song, the third in a row. Sonu Nigam joins Shreya Ghoshal does the crooning for the track with ease. Naresh Sharma has composed the song with lyrics by Dr. Deepak Sneh. This time you may feel that you’ve heard the track before for it has been featured in Rakht. It appears again later in the track. Sonu Nigam does another solo version in a pathos struck manner. He is the right and obvious choice for such numbers. All the three tracks are more or less appealing.
Ram Sampath takes the turn to compose the next track ‘Teri Baahon Mein’ a replica of a track from Khakee. The lyrics of Sameer are expressive and Sonu-Shreya combo trails the song with pleasure.
Anu Malik creates a vivacious track ‘Chillake Chillake’ that screams and will also make you scream with pleasure or woe, it’s up to you. The band Viva does the track. The track is sure to hit the dance floor. Another remix of the same track appears with a version by VJ turned DJ, Nikhil Chinnappa. With the ongoing disco culture, the track has a certain place to its credit.
The romantic fervor resumes with ‘Khushboo Khayal Hoon’ a solo track by Alka Yagnik. She gives a fine rendition to the track. The lyrics are by Zamir Qazmi. The balanced melody and Alka’s superb vocal, makes up for the track.
Anu Malik and Alisha Chinoy have created many remarkable tracks together. They get along again for ‘Tabahee Tabahee’, which treads a different path. The song is creepy with a scary chorus and a gross voice at the background. Alisha Chinoy keeps up to her style with some funky beats from the composer. Dev Kohli’s lyrics are ineffective. But the tracks don’t hold any semantic element to make the track worthwhile.
Some funky and romantic songs make up for the album of Chehraa. It’ll lend you a good time with the originals ands some repeated ones. The composers have done a creditable task. ‘Chillake Chillake’ and ‘Tabahee Tabahee’ make up for some unconventional musical experience.
