Producer: Mukesh Bhatt Director: Vikram Bhatt Cast: Bipasha Basu, Aftab Shivdassani, Emran Hashmi Music: Nadeem-Shravan
‘Footpath’ is directed by Vikram Bhatt and is produced by Tips Films and Mukesh Bhatt. Another realistic tale of sorts with action packed thrills and rational feel. But the going however is not that thrilling. The film seems loosely inspired by Hollywood flick.
The film begins in the milieu of Mumbai, with three friends Arjun (Aftab Shivdasani), Raghu (Emraan Hashmi) and Shekhar (Rahul Dev) who dwell there. Soon Arjun’s father gets murdered and Raghu and Shekhar avenge the death, which makes Arjun flee Mumbai and take refuge in Delhi. Being unluckily he gets traced by the police who force him to spill the bean against his friends.
It is a dark film that juggles from realistic to commercial sphere. Director Vikram Bhatt excels in portraying some brilliant sequences that stands out with a terrific climax at the end. But soon the narration begins appearing tired with the repetitive things happening again and again owing to Mahesh Bhatt’s half-baked script. Accuracy is not laid on the details and there are many things that are left to be justified. Good pace and well executed scene keep the first part going. But with the introduction of unnecessary romance the steams lets loose. Songs keep popping and are not incorporated well with the scenes. This realistic film lacks luster as soon as it begins to seek entertainment value for the regular cinegoers. Girish Dhamija's dialogues holds true to the film and gel well with the scenes. Pravin Bhatt's camerawork is good. Nadeem-Shravan's music is stale. Performance wise Aftab Shivdasani astounds and carries the role with brilliance. Rahul Dev is fine. Debutante Emraan Hashmi appears very natural and excels in his first film itself. Bipasha Basu looks pretty and newcomer Aparna Tilak also leaves her mark. Irfan Khan is first-rate in his small role. Anup Soni is good too.
It is one of the formulaic films that one comes across regularly. With lack of hype and promotion, it may not get a good acceptance.
