Audio Review : Music with a difference

Producer: Sanjay Dutt
Director: Sanjay Gupta
Cast: Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Sameera Reddy, Mahesh Manjrekar
Music: Vishal - Shekhar, Anand Raj Anand
Lyrics: Dev Kohli

‘Musafir’ is a movie from the director of ‘Kaante’ Sanjay Gupta. This is the story of a man who is always haunted by ill luck and how he fares in the scheme of life. Anil Kapoor portrays this unlucky man. The other actors in pivotal role include Sanjay Dutt, Sameera Reddy and Mahesh Manjrekar. Vishal –Shekhar and Anand Raj Anand, scores the music of this movie. Dev Kohli is the lyricist.

The first song ‘Ishq Kabhie Kariyona’ warns us against falling in love. Sunidhi Chauhan lets out this warning. She heats up the dance floors with her energetic rendition. Dev Kohli’s simple lyrics are musically adorned by Anand Raj Anand. This song with contemporary musical arrangement is sure to rock the dance floors.

Sukhwinder Singh comes out with the male version of this song. Anand Raj Anand takes away a bit of pace from this song. Now it looks like another composition. Sukhwinder scores full mark for his excellent rendition.

Next song ‘Rabba’ follows the same mood. But it is a bit slower in pace. Richa Sharma renders this entertaining number. The lyrics are by Dev Kohli and Kumar. This album also includes a techno version of this song ‘Rabba’. Krishna and Sukhwinder Singh renders these remix versions. Sukhwinder’s rendition towers over the other two.

The third song in this album is completely different from the first two songs both in pace and mood. ‘Phir Na Kehna’ is a slow- paced romantic duet. Veteran singer Kumar Shanu teams up with the latest musical find Sunidhi Chauhan for this duet. Kumar Shanu has nothing much to do as Sunidhi holds the mike for the major part of the song. The remixed version scores over the original.

‘Door Se Paas’ is another romantic track. This song talks about the intimacy lovers feel at this stage of love. They have walked a long way to reach here. The mastersinger K.K perfectly imbibes the mood of the lovers and his voice reflects the lover’s state of mind effectively. The fast paced track matches with its remixed version.

With the next track ‘Tez Daar’ actor Sanjay Dutt exercises his vocal chords. DJ Akeel is the man behind this song. Akeel has used Rap style to accommodate Sanjay Dutt’s voice.  Vishal and Milap Jhaveri write the lyrics. Sanjay Dutt fans eagerly await this song and he will not disappoint them. This album also contains a remixed version of this Sanjay Dutt track.

‘Ek Dil Ke’ follows the Sanjay Dutt track ‘Tez Daar’. Unlike the former this is a soft romantic track. Kunal Ganjanwala and Shreya Ghosal lend their voice to this composition. Their controlled rendition adds beauty to this number.  But this time Kunal is overshadowed by Shreya’s voice.

After Shreya it is the turn of Hema Sardesai. She makes a come back with the song ‘Suniyo Suniyo’. Her voice looks fresh and she is at ease with this pop number. Even though this is not a hit number Hema’s voice entertains us.

The last song of the album ‘Saki Saki’ is a Sufi styled song with western musical arrangement. The lyrics are very powerful. Sunidhi Chauhan and Sukhwinder Singh effortlessly deliver this dance number. The tune of the song haunts you even after the album ends.

This album is a unique collection with different styles of music. The remixed version of the songs stands out from the rest of the songs in this genre. This also includes the remixed version of Sanjay Gupta’s previous movie ‘Kaante’.
