Bend It Like Bekcham’ fame Gurinder Chadda has come out with another movie. Her new movie ‘Bride and Prejudice’ is an adaptation of the Jane Austen novel Pride and Prejudice. Gurinder Chadda who is an expert in blending cultures does it once again.
The story is set in the milieu of Amritsar. Mrs Bakshi has four beautiful young daughters. She is looking out for wealthy American Indians to marry off her daughters. As an answer to her prayers two wealthy men, one an Indian born American Balraj (Navin Andrews) and the other his friend Will Darcy (Martin Henderson), land up in their neighborhood. Balraj falls in love with Mrs Chadda’s eldest daughter Jaya (Namrata Shirodkar). But her second daughter Lalita (Aishwarya Rai) does not approve off her mother’s ways. She prefers to marry a man she loves. Her search for love finally lands her up in the arms of Will Darcy.
Can Mrs Bakshi approve of Lalita’s choice? Does she succeed in marrying off her daughters in the way she wished? The latter part of the movie ‘Bride and Prejudice’ answers all these questions and more.
