‘Waqt - The Race Against Time’ brings back Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and director Vipul Amrutlal Shah together after Aankhen. For the ones not familiar with the director, well he has directed many theatre shows and had debuted with a one of a kind film about bank robbery ‘Aankhen’. He is back after two years to direct this emotional drama of love and relationships.
The film is based on Aatish Kapadia’s play and is written by him. The music is by Anu Malik. Others in the cast include his wife Shefali Chaya, Boman Irani and Rajpal Yadav. The film is produced by Manmohan Shetty under Blockbuster Movie Entertainers banner.
Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar again hit the screen in their father-son avatar after Ek Rishta. In Waqt they share a very special bond and a unique relationship. Ishwar Sharawat (Amitabh Bachchan) is a very good and kindhearted man and the owner of toy manufacturing company. He is a good businessman, a devoted husband and a loving father. He and his wife Sumi (Shefali Chaya) adore their son Aditya (Akshay Kumar) like anything. Ishwar even turns blind eyes to Aditya’s fault though Sumi repeatedly tells him about their son’s indulgences and shortcomings. Aditya knows his father weakness very well and takes full advantage of the fact. Aditya loves Priyanka Chopra, the daughter of Nathu (Boman Irani). Due to same problems, the couple gets bound to elope from their homes. Finally they get married. Ishwar as usual forgives his son for the act. But he expects him to grow more responsible towards his life and duties. Aditya aspires to become a star and has no inclination to join his father’s business. Sometimes later Priyanka gets pregnant. Eventually Ishwar grows desperate and throws Aditya out of the house. Aditya at first predicts it to be some kind of joke but reality strikes him soon. He is left without luxury and money. To save his wife and his unborn child he’ll have to work. He becomes a freelance stuntman and also tries hard to become a star. But the relation between him and his father has turned patchy and sour by now. As the story develops he understands the motive of his father and they reunite again.
Waqt is expecting a release on April 2005.
