Should we say ‘better late than never’ or ‘better late forever’! Both the adage goes true to Suneel Darshan’s ‘Mere Jeevan Saathi’. The film starring Akshay Kuamr, Karisma Kapoor and Amisha Patel, which was supposed to release long back was stuck in the shelves all the while. The result is that the story looks out of date and the film out of place. Two women in love with a man, with the other woman wanting the man at any cost sounds very stale and something on the line of desi ‘Aitraaz’ and Hollywood flick ‘Fatal Attraction’. Add to that the boring screenplay and the reeling length.
Vicky (Akshay Kumar) is an upcoming music talent. He is on the threshold of his career and aspires to make it big someday. He is in love with Anjali (Amisha Patel), to whom he reckons to be his music. She is his inspiration and he cannot imagine his life without her. Vicky gets his break with a local music company with the Molani (Gulshan Grover) and Tolani (Ashish Vidyarthi). At the same time he gets another offer from a Canada based Music Company who will promote Vicky on a larger scale. This makes Vicky break his contract with the local music company. This music company avenges him by attacking him to which Anjali falls a captive and injures herself.
But Vicky has to move to Canada to join this new company. He is reluctant for he doesn’t want to leave his ailing lover in pain. At last he has to comply with Anjali’s pursuance and leaves for Canada. There he comes across Natasha (Karisma Kapoor), the proprietress of the company he works with. She backs Vicky for the shows and moulds his career with name, fame and recognition. Natasha takes a liking for him. Though Vicky still love Anjali, yet he gets involved with Natasha physically. Vicky is in a fix for Anjali is his inspiration whereas Natasha has worked towards his success. But Natasha is not in any mood to leave him and comes to India after him.
The twist in the tale erupts when Natasha unveils her love for him from her college days, as they were classmates. She has regained back her lost love and doesn’t want to loose him. She becomes extremely possessive regarding him. She tries to commit suicide and Vicky loses his patience over it. Vicky gets engaged to Anjali and it’s time for Natasha to strike a blow.
The story is very much run-of-the mill and the film is nothing other than typical Bollywood potboiler. Other than some scenes involving Karisma there is nothing much to look forward from it. Even the execution of the film is another disadvantage on the part of Suneel Darshan. Throughout the film we see Karisma as a woman of integrity and seeking to win her love and in the climax we see her meek. There is no point of reasonability in this part. Also too many songs is a drawback for the film but still one doesn’t mind sitting through the good tracks of Nadeem-Shravan.
Akshay Kumar is pretty ordinary with his performance here. Karisma Kapoor is good and her aggressive parts have really come out well. Amisha Patel puts on her effort too. Gulshan Grover and Ashish Vidyarthi end up hamming.
