Audio Review : Gumnaam (2004)

Music: Nadeem - Shravan
Lyrics: Sameer
Singers: Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sarika, Adnan Sami and Monica Nath

‘Gumnaam’ is a conventional thriller about an actress (Mahima Chaudhary) who falls in love with a stunt man (Dino Morea). Suman Ranganathan is the vamp out to steal the hero from the heroine.  The hit music director combo of Nadeem-Sharavan return for another musical score, Neeraj Pathak is directing the thriller while evergreen Sameer pens the lyrics.

Infused with melody the song that is heading for popularity in the charts is ‘Naa Hone Denge’. The voices of Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik enliven the jolly mood in the song. The song has a touch of Nadeem-Shravan's music in their early movies. The Club Mix of this track by DJ Nasha is just an extension of the goodness of the track. It is good to hear Kumar Sanu sounding back in action.

‘Mohabbat Se Zyada Mohabbat Hai Tumse’ follows the usual tempo of beats and rhythm like duo's so many other tracks and thus caters nothing innovative. The only positive note that strikes are the voices of Udit Narayan sings with Shreya Goshal and Monica Naath.

‘Zaalim Ishq’ is a speedy track, that is catchy and quite foot tapping aided by non-stop orchestra. It’s a skillful dance track by Sunidhi and Shaan destined to hit the top of music charts. An apt boogie number!

Adnan Sami steps in to sing 'Ishq ne kitna majbur kiya' with Shreya Goshal. The lyrics are appreciable but not the wiggling tune. A complete heart breaker!

‘Dhoke Mein Naa Aana’ with the voices of Abhijeet, Alka Yagnik and Sarika doesn’t impress at all. It is assumed to be a situational song representing the plot of the movie.

To make the point simple and straight ‘Gumnaam’ is a medley of various tracks few good and few that turn out to be dull and regular. The 'Nadeem Shravan' tag may ensure a decent place in the shelf of releases but today's audience is smart enough to sense the fate of a sloppy product even before it is presented.
