Movie Preview : Arivumani (2004)

Director: Kennedy
Cast: Murali, Meera Vasudevan
Music: Janakiraman

Murali, the favourite of medium-budgeted filmmakers, for quite some time now was not in circulation. After a brief hiatus, he comes back with Arivumani, directed by MA Kennedy.

Murali plays Arivumani, the manager of a tea estate in Ooty. Everyone likes him for his good behaviour and honesty. He always strives to better the welfare of the workers. Meera plays Priya, the daughter of the estate owner. One day Meera sees Murali chased by a group of men. He hoodwinks them and escapes. Meera questions him about the incident. He then reveals that those men steal antique idols from temples and sell them abroad. He managed to get a Ganesha idol from them. He sold it and with the money did some good things for the workers of the estate. Meera is very much impressed with her manager.

Director Kennedy said that the first half of the film is full of comedy and romance and the second half is emotional and heart-rending. “In the second half, Arivumani struggles to bring up his son after losing his wife in an accident.”

Murali, who fits the bill of Arivumani, was confident. “Whenever I have worked with a new director and producer, the film has worked wonders. This time too I feel it will work,” said a beaming Murali. Kennedy had worked as dialogue writer for KS Ravikumar’s film Pistha and Minsara Kanna.

Starring Damini, Manickam Vinayagam, Ramesh Kanna, Ajay Rathinam and Devan, the film has music by debutante Janakiraman and cinematography by Kasi Vishwa. Debutante actor MKL plays a major part in the second half. Srinivasan produces the film under the banner of Winner Creations.
