Another David Dhawan chic comedy film has hit the screen. So it’s time folks to keep your brain out of your head and get straight to the theatres for a dose of entertainment, fun and laughter. Produced by Mukta Arts Ltd.'s this film has all the necessary ingredients that you generally find in a David Dhawan film. This too is loaded with gags and punches with a wafer thin story where reasonability has no place. But can’t complain when he can manage to make us jump with fun and thrills.
This time David brings you the story of two notorious thugs Tara (Sanjay Dutt) and Sitara (Govinda). They are people who only know to bring trouble into the life of others with some prank or the other. They take life as it comes and move from one situation to another saving themselves. It happens that during a police chase they come across Cobra (Ashish Vidhyarthi) and hand him over to them to save themselves. Cobra swears to make them pay for the act. Tara and Sitara are on the extremes as both police and Cobra are after them. They decide to cross the border and live in peace. Their only savior is Ram Singh who can help them cross the border. They narrate a heart touching story to his family and finds a place for themselves in their house and heart. They fall in love with Ram Singh's daughter (Amrita Arora) and her friend (Nandini Singh). Maj. Ram Singh (Jackie Shroff) is a BSF Officer who has arrested Cobra's brother Panther (Gulshan Grover) who has the code to the Nation Destroying gun stolen. He is waiting for Cobra to get him out so that they can fulfill their mission.
Cobra soon learns about Tara and Sitara and decides to make them his aid to get his brother out of the jail. He kidnaps their mother and blackmails Tara and Sitara to get Panther out. Hereby follows a roller coaster ride from one thrilling and hilarious moment to another.
It does entertain. But in comparison to David’s former works this film has lot to achieve. It’s a formulaic tried and tested movie and there is nothing novel in the plot. There is no story and as soon as the audience realizes this, their attention fluctuates. The script gets so weird at times that you don’t know whom to blame for it. Emphasis has not been laid on romance and bonding. The villains lack intensity and they appear funny all the time. The strength of the film lies on the gags and punches and there are moments in the first half that’ll make you lol. But the same pace doesn’t follow the second half and it drags. The climax is the most unbelievable thing you’ve every seen. Don’t know whom the scriptwriter is fooling – himself or the audience.
The strength of the film lies on the dialogues by Bholu Khan and Aman Jaffrey, which are loaded with wit and humour. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music helps little to make things fair. Nadeem Khan's cinematography is apt. Govinda walks away with the reins of the film. He triumphs with his delivery and terrific comic performance. Sanjay Dutt besides him also doesn’t cease to entertain. They look good together. Amrita Arora and Nandini Singh add a touch of glamour and nothing else. Rajpal Yadav is at his best while Jackie Shroff is all right. Ashish Vidyarthi and Gulshan Grover look like jokers most of the time with their bizarre performance. Himani Shivpuri doesn’t get much to do.
The film is not among the ones that can be laced with appreciations. But with David-Govinda-Sanjay Dutt tag, there will be no stopping it at the box office.
