Akbar Khan’s magnum opus Taj Mahal - An Eternal Love Story is a grand affair worth Rs.100 Crores. The film is produced and directed by him. In the lead are Zulfikar as Shah Jahan and Sonya Jehan (daughter of Noor Jehan) as Mumtaz Mahal. Others in the cast include Kabir Bedi, Manisha Koirala, Pooja Batra, Arbaaz Ali, Kim Sharma, Milind Gunaji, Vaquar Sheikh and Arbaaz Khan.
The film brings back to life the glorious passage of history in the era of moguls. It is an effort to restore and revive the sequences and action that has taken place then. It takes us back to the Golden era of the Peocock Throne where the romance of emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal blossomed. The love story is legendary and eternal and mausoleum Taj Mahal is the evidence to it.
Taj Mahal signifies the tragedy that besieged the life of the emperor after his beloved’s death and his mental turmoil in the hands of his family. During that time the Moguls were obsessed with love and hate. Ambition, hunger of power, violence and conspiracy was at its epitome when Prince Khurram son of Emperor Jahangir was crowned the Emperor of Hindustan. There blossomed love between him and Arjumand, the niece of Empress Noor Jahan. Khurram was depended on his son and had given them the liberality of large armies and revenue. Consequently battles roared and sounds of charging horses and arms clanging filled the air. Own blood turned against each other and fathers and brothers turned enemies. Aurangzeb, son of Emperor Shah Jahan kills his own brother and imprisons his father to ascend the throne.
Emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal lived together in the land for nineteen years. The empress died an unfortunate death while the delivery of her last child. To immortalize his love, Emperor Shah Jahan constructed the epitome of love, Taj Mahal to us and Mumtaz Mahal to him. To build the tomb it took twenty-two long years. After his death his body was interred along side hers. This is the saga that Taj Mahal - An Eternal Love Story presents.
