‘Shukriya’ is a story of a man whose days on this beautiful earth are numbered. This movie closely sketches the dying man’s frantic efforts to live his life to the fullest in the company of his loved ones. Aftab Shivdassani, Anupam Kher, Rati Agnihotri and Shreya Saren play the principal characters. Debutant Anupam Sinha is the director.
The music is in sync with the theme of the movie. Sameer is the lyricist. Himesh Reshammiyya, Vishal- Shekhar, Devendra- Yogindra and Raju Rao add variety to the album.
The album begins with a romantic song ‘Tumhara Tumhara’. Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik croon this slow, melodious track. Himesh Reshammiyya is the music director. With its average lyrics and music composition this song fails to instigate feeling in the heart of the listeners.
But romantic mood continues in the next track as well. ‘Tumhe Jitna Bhulate Hain’ is a soft song with minimal musical instruments. Sameer’s lyrics effectively capture the mood of the situation. Sonu Nigam comes out with a soul- stirring rendition. For a change Himesh Reshammiyya sticks with the Indian musical instruments.
Vishal- Shekhar comes out with their first composition in this album ‘Akhon Akhon Mein’. Unfortunately this song sinks without a trace. K.K and Sunidhi Chauhan could do nothing to breathe life to this average composition.
This track ‘Leti Hai Ye Zindagi’ is a fusion of Indian, Western and Eastern style of music. The first timer Devendra-Yogendra duo creates an impressive piece of music. Sameer’s lyrics philosophize on the cycle of life. Sonu Nigam sings this philosophical piece.
After a situational track comes the title track of this movie ‘Shukriya’. This is the lone composition from Raju Rao. This talented composer makes the most of this opportunity and comes up with an incredible instrumental track. Piano plays a prominent role in this track. Raju Rao uses other musical instruments ingeniously to create the desired effect. The final product is a sweet, soft and poignant instrumental piece. It complements the theme of the movie.
After the title track it is once again Vishal- Shekhar with an innovative piece of music- ‘Dil Ai Dil’. Veteran singer Kumar Shanu lends his voice to this song. This slow track is based on traditional Indian music. This one falls soft on ears and goes straight in to the heart.
‘Kya Haal Hai Mere Is Dil Ka’ is another reasonably paced romantic song rendered by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. Both these established singers add grace to this song. Himesh Reshammiyya musically adorns this Sameer verse.
A dance number ‘Ne Soniye’ follows this one. Sonu, Udit, Alka and Shreya Ghoshal sing this Punjabi bhangra number. This rhythmic track brims with energy. Devendra-Yogendra is behind this enthusiastic musical composition.
‘Maine Poonchha Kudrat Se’ comes close to one of the most romantic melodies in Hindi ‘Maine Poocha Chaand Se’. Just one word separates the title of the two songs. Kumar Shanu and Anuradha Paudwal lend voice to this poetic verse. It scores full marks for choreography and picturisation.
On the whole this album contains some of the most romantic songs of the year. Take for example the song ‘Maine Poocha Kudrat Se’. There is not even a single poor track in this album. It is a best bet for the lovers of romantic melody.
