Movie Review : Anjaane - The Unknown

Producer: Sneh Mehta
Director: Harryy W Fernandes
Cast: Sanjay Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Tejaswini Kolhapure
Music: Himesh Reshammiya

The film is a remake of the Hollywood horror flick ‘The Others’.  The only difference between the Bollywood and Hollywood version is that, ‘Anjaane’ is made the Bollywood way. Even with the enthralling plot and story laid before you, the director is hardly able to handle the script with profundity.

‘Anjaane’ deals with emotions, suspense, horror and relationships. The story is of a mother’s love for her children. Shivani (Manisha Koirala) is married to Aditya (Sanjay Kapoor) and they’ve two children. But Aditya loves Sonia (Tejaswini Kolhapure). Shivani comes to know of the affair soon and slaps Sonia in fury. Sonia now seeks vengeance on Shivani for the contempt she has brought her. So she tells Aditya to move in with her and divorce Shivani. Sonia realizes soon that she cannot deliver a child and so she and Aditya decide to have Shivani’s children now. The court also favors Aditya in this regard. But it doesn’t happen the way they wanted it to.

With horror and thrill at its base, such films demand more intriguing moments and mood to keep one hooked to the screens. But the screenplay here neither has the feel nor the cast to work wonders for it. The film moves on in one track without giving rise to any excitement. The result is boredom from the very beginning till the very end.

Direction by Harry W. Fernandes and also his script don’t have the stamina to stand strong from the very beginning itself. The only cherishable thing in the film is its music by Himesh Reshammiya and cinematography by Rajan Kinagi. Acting wise no actor are at par. Manisha Koirala for the kind of talent she has in store should work in better scripts instead of picking such stale film. Sanjay Kapoor and Tejaswini Kolhapure need to do a lot to sharpen their acting skills.
