Director: A Venkatesh Cast: Sarath Kumar, Namitha, Vadivelu Music: Shrikanth Deva
The film is a flop show from the word 'Go' because of the old story and the same kind of treatment given to it.
The story goes like this. Sarathkumar is a sales person, selling household goods like Radio and time pieces etc. The heroine Namitha is working in Palani post office and loves Sarathkumar without him knowing about it! Sarath is being affected by the atrocitites of local Dadas. Sarath try to control himself for sometime, and raise up to the challenge at certain point of time. Then only we come to know about the real back ground of the man. Can you guess about his background. He was an Army man. He comes backs to his home town. There he came to know about the death of his dear friend in the hands of local rowdy elements. The big vig behind these elements is Kota Srinivasarao. He came to know about that and fought with the man and cut his hand and feet as a way of revenging his friend's death. After this he disappears from that place and resurfaces in Palani as a sales person.
Kota Srinivasa Rao came to know about this and send his goons to finish him up. Whether they were successful in the mission or not was the climax of the movie.
The core theme of the films 'Chatrapathy' and 'Yei' are one and the same. Sarath seems to have given know or little attention when he heard the story when it was narrated to him in the first place. So do in the interval time one can hear the comments of viewers as 'Hey.. this is the same story of 'Chatrapathy'". When he attempt to neglect this fact and try to write about the performance there is nothing new to write about same Army returned solider who thrashes the baddies, giving lengthy lectures to the police etc. What is there to write about?
Though the hero's position in this movie is very weak and has nothing to new to offer, the comedy of track of vadivelu acts as a boost to the film. Vadivelu is acting as a sales man of second hand house hold items. We would like to give an example for his 'peppy' comedy. The dialogue between Vadivelu and 'crane' Manohar is worth mentioning here.
Crane Manohar: ( takes the time piece in his hands and asks Vadivelu) Will this time piece run?
Vadivulu : Yes, of course it run very well.
Crane Manohar: (places the timepiece on the ground) Why it is not at all running.
Vadivelu stairs at him perplexed.
Crane Manohar: (move on to a tube light next. He lights a pedi and shows the Tube light to Vadivelu) will this Tube light burn?
Vadivelu : Yes , Yes, very brightly
Crane Manohar: Places the lighted pedi on the Tube light, and asks Vadivelu, see it is not at all burning. Vadivelu's facial reaction to this response just hilarious
Like this Vadivelu's comedy is the saving grace of the film.
As per the story Namitha was working in post office and love Sarathkumar. The heroine did not try to make her presence felt even in a single scene.
She keeps the Blood pressure of the youngsters on the raise in the song sequence by plastering her wet body and Sarath.
Mumtaj had danced for a single song. One cannot understand the reason behind her presence in this movie.
The director Venkatesh, thinking that he is taking the film in an fast paced manner had ended up in giving a confused treatment to the whole story. Had he tried to think calmly and clearly about each and every sequence, a different kind of movie would have emerged. But it seems he had given in to the suggestions of his assistants during 'drunken session called story discussion', results in a kind of movie that is tepid and not at all up to the mark.
