Movie Review : Dobara (2004)

Producer: Shashi Ranjan
Director: Shashi Ranjan
Music: Anu Malik
Cast: Jackie Shroff, Raveena Tandon, Mahima Chaudhary, Muammar Rana

Ranbir (Jackie Shroff) is a famous writer married to Anjali (Mahima Chaudhary). A phonecall from an old flame, Zia (Raveena Tandon) turns his life upside-down. She informs him that he has a son born out of wedlock and forces him to accompany her to Goa to meet the child. However, Zia’s real agenda is to take Anjali’s place in Ranbir’s life...How Ranbir survives this emotional tug-of-war forms the crux of the story.

Dobara is a sincere attempt on the part of the filmmaker to attempt something different.Shashi Ranjan’s actors too are sincere. The intense emotional drama is flawed by the moral contradictions in the portrayal of the protagonists. Pakistani actor Muammar Rana makes a brief appearance.

The plus points of the film are the sincere performances of the actors. Cinematography too is excellent and Anu Malik as usual has produced foot-tapping music.
