Audio Review : Phir Milenge- A classy musical outing

Director: Revathy
Cast: Shilpa Shetty, Abhishek Bachan, Salman Khan, Meeta Vasisht, Nasser
Music: Shankar- Ehsan –Loy, Nikhil-Vinay, Bhavatha Raja
Lyrics: Praveen Bharadwaj, Sameer

Revathy, as you all know, is one of the prominent movie directors in India. Her last venture ‘Mitr’ did well with the audience.  She is known for her unconventional treatment of themes. ‘Phir Milenge’ is her first attempt at Hindi movie making. This is an educational film on AIDS. Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Abhishek Bachan play the main leads. Shankar- Ehsan – Loy, Nikhil- Vinay and Bhavathi Raja score the music of this movie. Prasoon Joshi and Sameer write lyrics.

This movie narrates the story of an AIDS patient who fights with the world for her right to travel, work and emote. As the story is sober, so is the music. Just have a look at the first song ‘Jeene Ke Ishare’. This powerful piece of music adds life to the hearts of depressed souls. It is a simple composition with minimal musical arrangements. The nuances of Shankar’s voice are profoundly felt in such an atmosphere. With guitar playing in the background Shankar’s vocals emote the mood of the song. Prasoon Joshi comes up with an astounding piece of soul stirring lyrics. It is a musical experience to cherish.

Next in line is ‘Betaab Dil’. Nikhil – Vinay, musically adorns this love song penned by Sameer. Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal render this melodious number. There is a sad version of the same song in Sonu’s voice. It pierces your heart and you feel a lump in the throat. The music by Nikhil –Vinay is inspired by the mournful melodies of the legendary music director duo Lakshmikant- Pyarelal. It is a must listen.

‘Khushiyon Ki Koshish’ is another melodious track full of life. Shankar- Ehsaan- Loy composes this musical beauty. Srinivas and Mahalakshmi lend their voice to this remarkable piece of poetry. The energetic rendition of the two singers makes this a lively piece of music. Prasoon Joshi is the lyricist. This rhythmic track caters to the tastes of one and all.

Next comes the theme song of the movie ‘Phir Milenge’. It is not a full-fledged song, but falls in the cadre of background track. Vijay Yesudas and Febi sing this Bhavathi Raja composition.

‘Kuchh Pal’ is a situational track in the voice of Vijay Yesudas.  Bhavathi Raja musically embellishes this powerful piece of poetry. She with his musical arrangement gives a South Indian touch to this song.  This slow paced track is an integral part of the story. It is effective when heard along with the video. It is not everyone’s cup of tea.

The famous classical vocalist Bombay Jayasree sings a slow paced song in this album. ‘Khul Ke Muskurale’ is another lyrical beauty accompanied by an innovative musical arrangement. This song reminds you of the classical R.D.Burman compositions. This classically inclined song is meant for the lovers of such music.

This album ends with a haunting melody ‘Yaad Hai Wo Pehli Mulaqat’. Abhijeet is the man behind the mike. His rendition is remarkably touchy. This is the sad version of the opening track ‘Jeene Ke Ishare’. This song shows us what Sameer is capable of. He comes out with a soul-stirring poetry.

This album musically presets you with one of the most haunting melodies. The songs in this album are a combination of powerful lyrics, excellent music and matching vocals. It may not cater to the musical tastes of general public. But the lovers of music will cherish this experience for years to come. The presence of popular stars like Salman and Abhishek will make the album sell like hot cakes.
