Ehsaas is anything but the emotional drama that it claims to be. Which makes it a miss, like plenty of them that released this season.
So what is the story about? Well Ravi Naik (Suneil Shetty) is a poor widower with a 11-year-old son Rohan (Mayank Tandon). Now all would be fine between the father and son, but Ravi want’s to make his son a great athlete and win the national championship in the All India Inter-School Meet. To achieve this goal, Ravi adopts an intensive training routine almost military in attitude which is not acceptable by the 11-year-old.
Another character to this story is the next-door neighbour Antara (Neha). Antara is a young widow who stays with her mother-in-law, Kiron Kher. They share a close bond, as the older woman is like a mother to the younger. Antara is attracted to little Rohan and in the course of the she falls in love with his father.
Now the new twist of the story, is infact the oldest one that we have been seeing from the black and white days. Just prior to the finals, Rohan meets with an accident crushing the dreams of his father. However Rohan runs the race with a bleeding leg much against doctors and everybody else’s advise because he wants to see his father happy.
So what do you expect. Rohan loses the race, but wins the love and respect of his father and everything ends on a happy note. The movie has nothing convincing, Ravi Naik is shown as a poor government employee who has no money to buy his son imported spikes for the race. He goes on to sell his late wife's mangalsutra, his last remembrance of her. At the same time, one wonders how he can afford rimless spectacles and light up his entire house with decorative lights for New Year's Eve. When will directors learn to make note of these small but true to life facts. So strange that a director like Mahesh Manjrekar fails to do his homework.
Ehsaas stumbles with its bad script. Mahesh ala Subhash Ghai makes a convincing cameo as a drunken colleague of Antara. Special appearances from singers Anand Raaj Annad and Sunidhi Chauhan is commendable, however musicall the film has noting to sing home about.
Sunil Shetty as the strict father who finds it hard to express his love to his son is the only performance and the only reason why this movie, if it ever needs to be seen has to be seen. While Neha has delivered an average performance, while Mayank Tandon as the small boy makes a good debut but looks confused.
Mahesh Manjrekar seems to be riding high on his Vaastav and Astitva, has once again failed to deliver, infact wasting such class talent as Kiron Kher in an insignificant role gives an insight into the fact that as a director he is too confident or rather over confident with his subject.
As, whether you need to see the movie? The sparsely populated theatre on the first day, first show should help you decide, I presume.
