Director: Ashok Pandit Cast: Sheen, Raj Babbar, Tarun Arora Music: Nadeem Shravan Lyrics: Sameer
‘Sheen’ is a movie on the terrorism torn lives of innocent Kashmiris. It realistically depicts the hardships faced by Kashmiri Pandits who were thrown out of their land by the extremist groups. Raj Babbar plays the role of a Kashmiri Pandit who fights against this oppression and violence. The newcomer actress Sheen plays the lead character. Director Ashok Pandit voices out the concerns and pains of this minority community who is forced to lead an exile’s life in their own motherland.
The Nadeem- Shravan- Sameer team comes up with a haunting and mournful melody. It complements and boosts the sad ambiance of the movie. Sameer’s lyrics effectively capture the pain and humiliation in the heart of innocent Kashmiris. This album makes you sit through it with a grief –stricken heart. It starts with a musing over the beauty of Kashmir and ends with wailing over the present state of ‘ Heaven on Earth’.
The opening track of the album ‘Yeh To Kashmir Hai’ celebrates the beauty of Kashmir. Sameer’s lyrics are so exemplary that it makes us visualize the beautiful snow- laden Kashmir and it’s loving natives. Udit Narayn and Alka Yagnik render this sweet romantic song. Nadeem- Shravan instills the Kahmiri feel to this song by effectively using the Kashmiri folk tunes. The scenic beauty of Kashmir vividly picturised in this song is breath taking. In short, this composition excels in all four departments.
The next song ‘O Sanam Kuja Beri’ is purely a folk based number in the voices of Sonu Nigam and Sapna Mukherjee. It portrays the happy go lucky nature of Kashmiris. Sonu and Sapna effectively express the lively and energetic mood of song. Sameer uses both Kashmiri and Hindi words to suit the occasion. In total it is a wonderful piece of music.
‘Tum Dua Karo’ is a prayer. It comes out from the heart of a couple who are passionately in love. Kumar Shanu and Neerja Pandit render this melodious number. Sameer’s lyrics capture the mood of the lovers effectively. This is a typical Nadeem- Shravan composition.
Then comes the theme song of ‘Sheen’. It comes close to an instrumental composition. Rendered by Tauseef Akhthar this painful melody powerfully describes the helpless striving of the people of the terrorist- stricken Kashmir.
After this haunting melody it is the turn of a simple, happy number. ‘Main Ladki Kashmir Ki’ resounds the old Shammi Kapoor- Sharmila Tagore track in ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’. The lyrics bring out the picture of a simple, innocent village girl. Kavita Krishnamoorthy’s voice reverberates with the innocence of the simple Kashmiri girl. But it fails to create the same magic of other songs in this album.
Next track ‘Aao Jannat Mein Jahannum Ka Nazara Dekho’ takes us through the blood-spattered state of Kashmir. It is one of the gloomiest numbers of this album. Sameer’s lyrics depict the wretched state of affair in this land of snow. The extremists groups have turned the heaven on earth to hell. This song goes well with the theme of the movie and projects the innate anger of the Kashmiri population. Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Mohd. Aziz, Shreya Ghoshal and Nirja Pandit sing this poignant musical composition.
‘Sahara Chahiye’ is a call from the residents of Kashmir to the whole of India. They appeal to the nation and the natives to lend a helping hand in their fight against terrorism. This song is composed in Qawali style, as it is invocation. Sabri Brothers (Saeed Sabri, Farid Sabri and Amin Sabri) sing this powerful track. Sayeed Ali Miya Baqai comes up with a strong poetic verse. Never ever miss this track.
In total the music of ‘Sheen’ is a beautiful collection of songs you would like to include in your collection.
