With the association of Tips Films and Target Films P. Ltd.’s, ‘Dil Ka Rishta’ edited-directed by Naresh Malhotra stars Arjun Rampal, Aishwarya, Isha Kopikkar, Priyangshu Chatterjee, Rakhee and Paresh Rawal in pivotal role. It is a simple love story with light moments that you will like. But in the process it loses the commercial charm that is so important for the success of the film.
Jai (Arjun Rampal) is the ideal man that every girl seeks. He is good-looking, handsome, charming, and posses a very good heart! But his eyes are on Tia (Aishwarya) and he begins loving her deeply and passionately. But Tia doesn’t reciprocate to his love. Tia is not ready to take his hands and accept him in the present. Jai continues to love her. But one fine day something happens that makes Tia love Jai. But now Jai does not reciprocate, although he loves her silently and intensely.
Positives that work for the film are fresh pairing, good technicians, likeable moments and songs. The biggest setback is the script. The first part with the romance of Aishwarya Rai and Priyanshu is pleasant. The love triangle at this moment is executed with brilliance. But post-interval the film isn’t able to hold any good as the story becomes very predictable with the tried and tested stuff. Add to that the slow pace leads to boredom. Follows an equally bad and unjustifiable climax. It’s just not believable.
Naresh Malhotra’s direction does not rise above the ordinary due to the poor script. He trumps with some entertaining and enjoyable moments in the first half. But editing by him is flawed as the second half just drags. Nadeem-Shravan's music is functional. Ashok Mehta excels with cinematography, Viju Shah's background music and Naeem Shah's dialogues are apt.
Arjun Rampal does his part with honesty and leaves good impression. He is growing as an actor and his expressions are accurate too. Aishwarya Rai puts looks to kill and does a good job. Priyanshu is the life of the first part and he is first-rate. So are Rakhee and Paresh Rawal.
‘Dil Ka Rishta’ even though boasting of a good star cast, won’t be able to stand true to the claims at the box office. It will be a treat only for Ash and Arjun’s fans!
