Audio Review : Deewanapan - Neither Good, Nor Bad

Producer: Vashu Bhagnani
Director: Ashu Trikha
Cast: Diya Mirza, Arjun Rampal
Music: Aadesh Shrivastava
Singers:  Hema Sardesai, Shaan, Shhradha Pandhit, Sunidhi Chauhan, Richa Sharma, Sukhwindar Singh, Adnan Sami, Falguni Pathak, Anuradha Sriram

Vashu Bahgnani is looking for a hatrick. His first movie ‘Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai’ did a superb job in the box office. The music of his next venture ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’ has already rocked the current musical scene. And now he is out with his third movie ‘Deewanapan’ starring Arjun Rampal and Dia Mirza. Adesh Shrivastava’s trendy music and Sameer’s soulful lyrics are the highlights of the soundtrack.

Shaan and Sunidhi lend their voice for the album opener ‘Haan Mein Tera Deewana’. This song is a nice blend of some of the Indian and western soft playing musical instruments. Chorus is the life force of this track. Adesh’s music is beyond comparison. It sounds fresh and original. Sameer’s lyrics though familiar contribute to the beauty of this composition. Shaan’s modulated voice perfectly goes in tune with the mood of the song.

Shaan once again comes behind the mike for the melodious number ‘Main Ek Deewana’. The soft playing music and noiseless background adds to the beauty of this romantic track. With its velvety musical arrangement and moving lyrics this song enjoys a place in our heart.

The mood suddenly turns perky and zingy with the arrival of an original bhangra number ‘Nach Nach Nach’. Sung by Sukhwinder Singh this Punjabi wedding song has a surprise in store for you. You are going to hear the soft voiced Adnan Sami for the first time in a peppy and loud bhangra number. Dandiya queen Phalguni Pathak comes in to render for Dia Mirza. Accompanied by traditional Punjabi musical instruments this song is absolutely going to hit the top slot in today’s chartbuster list.

‘Satrangi’ a female solo by Anuradha Sriram sounds exciting. The playfully mischievous rendition of Anuradha adds to the punch of this song. But unfortunately it does not come anywhere near the ‘Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai’ song ‘Aa Rang De Dupatta Mera’.

‘Doston Naam Karna Hai’ and ‘Hum Deewane’ are the two campus tracks included in this album. KK, Shaan and Hema Sardesai team up together to croon these hip-hop and perky youthful numbers. Hema Sardesai comes in as the fourth singer in the first song  ‘Doston Naam Karna Hai’. Set to tune in contemporary mode these songs are going to be a hit among the young music enthusiasts.

The last song ‘Kamli Kamli’ impresses you with its earthen flavor and feel. Richa Sharma and Sukhwinder Singh lend their voice over this classically inclined folk number. Accompanied by the traditional Indian musical instruments this situational number adds to the intensity of the situation. In feel this folksy track comes close to a similar kind of number ‘Ho Gaya Hai’ from the movie ‘Pardes’.  Even the singing sounds rustic and folksy.

After two high caliber musicals ‘Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai’ and ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’ Vashu Bhagnani treads the mediocre path this time. The songs of ‘Deewanapan’ do not fall under the category of excellent compositions. But it has its own attraction.  Especially the first one ‘Haan Mein Tera Deewana’ and the Punjabi dance number ‘Nach Nach Nach’ holds a special place in our hearts.
