Ullam Ketkumae is a film by director Jeeva that atlast saw the light of the day. The film was awaiting release since the last one year.
The premise of the film is a campus love story and is basically targeted for the youths. All the elements of the film are sure to go well with the teenyboppers. The strength of the film are good characterization with an etched out character for everybody, pulsating and peppy music and stirring cinematography. The minus is the lengthy climax that makes the film appear dragging and ultimately making one loose interest in it.
The film is about five friends Shaam (Sham), Ehshaan (Arya), Pooja (Laila), Priya (Asin) and Irene (Pooja) who were college students. They all get together in the marriage of Ehshaan. Henceforth follows a string of flashback scenes as one by one they all recollect their good old college days. They were buddies in the college.
Ehshaan was a good cricket player in the college. He had a liking for an Anglo-Indian girl Irene. Shaam was crazy for Priya. Pooja gives a triangle to the love story of Shaam and Priya as she falls for Shaam. They all try to convey their feeling to the person they love during the college cultural.
When Shaam proposes Priya she rejects him and in the meantime Pooja comes to learn about Shaam’s love interests and hides her feelings. There is a break off between Irene and Ehshaan after he is dropped from the college cricket team. Irene fights with him on the issue and later commits suicide. After that they all disperse with their own life.
It’s for Ehshaan’s wedding several years later that they get together again. Ehshaan is having an arranged marriage with the bride chosen by his family. He is now a big cricketer representing his country. As they recall their early days, there comes Pooja who is in USA. The love story of Pooja and Shaam emerge again and this time it turns successful.
Sham has a strong role to perform in the film and after a string of flops this seem to be a well-grounded recovery for him. He has done well with his role. Pooja, Asin and Arya were launched with the film and have earned quite some fame for themselves in the industry. This was their debut film and they’ve done appreciable jobs. Laila as an innocent and cheerful college student appeal to one and all. She is the creditable lot among all.
Harris Jeyaraj’s music is great and suits the film well. The music is refreshing and energizing. The screenplay is interesting and gripping not letting the movie fall out of place inspite of the delay. The film is targeted to the youth and Jeeva with his cinematography and direction rightly appeals to that. However the lengthy scenes and dialogues mar the quality of the film. Anyways the youth are going to love it and that’s what matters!
