‘Dhund – The Fog’ directed by Shyam Ramsay is yet another stale presentation like the Ramsay's former films. Though the story is not that gory and ghastly as their former films, yet it has its moments of thrill, murder and chilling scenes.
Simran (Aditi Govitrikar) is a model and Samir (Amar Upadhyay) is in love with her. Simran wants to take part in a beauty contest but Ajit Khurana (Irfan) warns her to step back as he wants his sister (Shweta Menon) to win. Simran doesn’t pay any heed to it, goes ahead and bags the title. Ajit gets furious and tries to kill her, but Simran and her cousin Kajal (Divya Palat) murder him in the stance to save themselves. Samir and Kunal (Apoorva Agnihotri) dump Khurana's body, but soon he returns back to seek revenge.
The biggest set back of the film is that it doesn’t try to come out with anything novel. We have already come across such films by the Ramsay’s. So even though it claims to be a suspense film, predictability kills it all. Director Shyam Ramsay does incorporate some moments that make your hair raise, but they are far and few. The screenplay is mediocre and there is not much adequate detailing. Most of the parts in the film are not plausible. Though it’s a ‘musical mystery’, scores of Viju Shah drowns the progress. Surinder Sodhi’s background score is useful. Editing is inappropriate and Gangu Ramsay cinematography is okay.
Debutante Amar Upadhyay requires lot to do. He puts up an ordinary act and also hams at times. Apoorva Agnihotri in his given territory is fine. Aditi Govitrikar and Divya Palat call for some refinement in their acting skills. Irfan, Prem Chopra and Gulshan Grover are okay.
The film may run in small centers but with all sense and sensibility it will put a poor show at the box office. Don’t lace any expectations on the film.
