Movie Review : Manasthan (2004)

Producer:  K Dhandapani
Director:  K Bharathi
Music:  S A Rajkumar
Cast: Sarath Kumar, Sakshi, Abbas, Vijayakumar, Vadivelu,Manzzor Alikhan,Dhamu, Vaiyapuri,  Radha

Sarath Kumar and Vijayakumar team up for a movie that revolves around human relationships packed with emotions. Unfortunately, the movie was completed quite some time back and has been in the cans for long. Hence, the audience might not receive it too well now.

Sarath Kumar who looks authentic in rustic characters, plays the elder son of village landlord Vijayakumar in the movie. His personality is pleasing and dutiful and is predictably the darling of everyone in the village His stunt sequences are good too.

Meanwhile, Vijayakumar's performance may come under the heading of overacting.

Vadivelu provides relief with his humour. Sarath Kumar's lady love  is Sakshi, who has nothing much to do.

The movie is about a prosperous happy family, whose happiness is put paid to when the family secret regarding Sarath Kumar's birth is revealed. This results in the hero leaving his family. The rest of the story is whether Sarath Kumar manages to reunite with his family and hold the hands of his beloved.

Debutant director Bharathi's family drama is a bit slow in today's trend of fast-paced scripts in the Tamil film industry. The narration seems slow in Manasthan.

Also in the cast are 'Kaakha' Radhakrishnan, Mansoor Ali Khan and Barathy. Music by S A Rajkumar sounds very similar to his earlier tunes. Kicchas has handled cinematography, while editing is by V T Vijayan.

Unfortunately, the delay in its release seems to have had an effect on the movie.
