Audio Review : Chehra - A Nice and Melodious Musical Outing

Producer: Dilkhush Doshi
Director: Saurabh Shukla
Cast: Bipasha Basu, Dino Morea, Irrfan Khan
Music: Anu Malik, Nikhil- Vinay
Singers: Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu, Jaspinder Narula, Shankar Mahadevan

‘Chehra’ directed by Saurabh Shukla stars Bipasha Basu, Dino Morea and Irrfan Khan in the lead. Anu Malik scores music for this suspense thriller. A bunch of writers from veteran Sameer to the newcomer Zamir Qazmi contributes to the lyrics of this movie.

This album opens up with a Nikhil-Vinay composition ‘Mausam Ki Ijazat’. Falling nicely on ears this melodious number boast of some good lyrics by Sameer. Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya Ghosal render this romantic number. The picturisation, tune and rendition perfectly complement each other. Shreya Ghosal needs a special mention here. Her vocals exude with a nice blend of innocence and sensuality. On the whole, this song gives a nice and melodious start for this album.

Anu Malik composition ‘Kabhie Khamosh Baithogi’ continues with the same mood. Rahat Indori’s lyrics are of superb quality and it enhances the romantic feel of the track. A slow moving romantic melody it falls softly on ears. This song sounds more like an Anu Malik composition in the 90’s. Babul Supriyo and Mahalakshmi do well in their rendition. A nice song to sing to your beloved on a romantic outing together.

The mood gets vibrant and youthful with this rhythmic dance number ‘Chillake Chillake’. All girl pop group Viva croons this one. Sanjay Chhel is the lyricist. It grabs you at the first hearing itself. Viva croons this highly vivacious rhythmic number in their characteristic playful style. DJ Nikhil Chinnappa’s remixed version sounds more peppy and rocking. He adds more western beats and rhythm to make it a truly disco number.

Opening with a strange and scary vocals ‘Tabahee Tabahee’ guarantees you a spooky musical experience. As soon as the familiar voice of Alisha Chinoy enters the whole mood of the song takes a sudden backward turn. It then relegates itself into another trendy and vibrant item number. The dreadfulness completely vanishes. The fast moving music and beats makes for a horrendous musical experience. The strange sounding chorus’s high-pitched chanting of the title word ‘Tabahee Tabahee’ becomes unbearable after some time. Dev Kohli’s lyrics fail to infuse life in to this track.

To your relief melody makes its way up with ‘Khushboo Khayal Mein’. After such a dreadful music this song flows over us a like a cool and fresh breeze. Its soft playing musical instruments and soft melody soothes your heart. Even the chorus sounds light and it does not break the melodious flow of the song. Alka Yagnik softly and smoothly flows through this excellent love song. Zamir Qazmi’s lyrics are praiseworthy and it heightens the romantic feel of the track.

‘Hadh Se Jyada Sanam’composed by Naresh Sharma has nothing new to boast of. The new music director treads the often-walked musical path and comes up with a routine romantic number. It comes twice in this album. Sonu Nigam croons both the versions. In the first version Shreya Ghosal gives him company. Sonu excels in his sad version. Actually both these tracks do not have any great shakes. Dr. Deepak Sneh is the lyricist.

The album ends with a nicely composed melodious number ‘Teri Baahon Mein’. Ram Sampat who has scored music for ‘Khaakee’ is the man behind this composition. Accompanied by a silent and soft playing background arrangement Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal comes into croon to this romantic track. Their soft and mellow rendition certainly heightens the romantic feel of the number. Once again Sameer’s well-written verse accentuates the effects of the song. On the whole this is a mind blowing musical composition.

Ranging from ordinary to good, ‘Chehra’ offer you a variety of musical experience. ‘Mausam Ki Ijazat’ and ‘Teri Baahon Mein’ are the pick of the album. On the whole this album makes for a nice buy.
