A movie by the musically inclined director duo Abbas- Mastan it boasts of some ear pleasing musical tracks. After the success of ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Soldier’ Anu Malik once again comes back to the fold of Abbas- Mastan. Sameer is the lyricist. With Anu Malik at the helm of music we can expect a mix of some melodious and foot tapping numbers.
Title track kick starts the proceedings of the album. Set to tune in a typical Anu Malik style, this song rides high on trendy beats and catchy tune. Rendered by Alka Yagnik and Babul Supriyo ‘Chori Chori Chupke Chupke’ definitely appeals to the musical minds. With such a long movie title it is difficult to come up with a title track. But Anu Malik and Sameer have done an impressive job. The same holds true for the singers. Alka Yagnik and Babul Supriyo have given their whole heart for this track. As a result it turns out to be a nice and enjoyable title song.
This impressive musical piece is followed by another beautiful composition. ‘Dekhne Walon Ne’ sounds great in the voice of Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. The rhythmic beats and emotive rendition adds to the effect of the song. This tune may remind you of some other Anu Malik numbers. But as always he disguises this familiar tune by adding some new beats here and there.
Pop queen Anaida and Anu Malik comes together for the next song ‘Deewani Deewani’. Even with the sweet voice of Anaida this cabaret track fails to take off. There is nothing great about this track.
A short and peppy wedding track comes next. ‘Dulhan Ghar Aayi’ begins with the sound of shehnai and with the arrival of Punjabi beats the song changes its flavor. It becomes a playful and enthusiastic number in the end. Punjabi track specialist Jaspinder Narula lends her voice for this song. The chorus chanting about the life of a girl in her husband’s place makes for a nice listening. Unfortunately, this song is too short to make an impact. There is an instrumental version of the same included in this album.
‘Love You Love You’ fails to invoke any kind of romantic feeling in our heart. Prominently western this track is an absolute dud. Once again Sameer falters in his skills. Anu Malik’s loud music adds to the woes of the listeners. And above all Alka Yagnik sounds screechy due to her over stretched rendition. Anu Malik’s unbearable voice gives her the company.
‘Mehndi Mehndi’ is a typical North Indian marriage song. The rhythmic beats of dholak and soft playing shehnai rightly express the happy and sad sense of the occasion. The full-hearted rendition of Jaspinder Nerula lifts the song to an enjoyable height. The underlying melancholic mood boosts the enjoyment of the track.
The last song ‘No 1 Punjabi’ as the title suggests is a number one bhangra track that you can enjoy always. The high- spirited rendition of Jaspinder and Sonu Nigam perfectly goes in sync with the vibrant beats of drums and other typical bhangra instruments. The whole track is spiced up with an addition of some western beats here and there. Even then it does not come anywhere close to the other Anu Malik Punjabi number ‘Mere Rang Balle Balle’.
In conclusion, this album offers you some good and some average musical experience. With its huge star cast it may do well at the box office. But there is not even a song in the whole album that can be considered as a perfect musical asset.
