After the success of ‘Maachis’ and ‘Satya’ the hit music director- lyricist jodi Vijay Bharadwaj and Gulzar team up again for a love flick ‘Chup Ke Se’. Directed by the new entrant Shona Urvashi this movie has the new comers Zulfi Syed and Masumi Mikhija playing the central characters.
The album starts with a soft and sweet melodious track ‘Kehte Kehte’. The legendary Asha Bhonsle is heard singing along with Lucky Ali, the son of veteran comedian Mehmood. Ashaji who is known for her sensuous numbers shows her talent for soft and melodious tracks. Lucky Ali’s romantic voice adds grace to the song. Gulzar saab’s lyrics are of excellent quality.
‘Kafi Nahi Jo bhi Hai’ means ‘I am not satisfied with whatever I have’. These lines of Gulzar are beautified by Vijay Bhardwaj’s music. To make this ‘masti’ number stand out from the rest of fun tracks Vijay Bhardwaj has given it a Spanish touch. Alka Yagnik lends voice to this song. The only minus point here is that the lyrics and music do not go hand in hand.
The award winning background music arranger Ranjit Barot composes the next two songs. First one ‘Jeele Jeele’ is a peppy, rhythmic track in the voice of KK, Alka Yagnik and Ranjit Barot. The music, rendition and lyrics are so perfect that the song stays with you forever.
The next track ‘Dildara’ has a certain Arabian flavor. This well picturised Sufi track catches your eyes fast. Gayathri Iyer and Zubeen croon these Abbas Tyrewala lyrics. This is one of the best songs in this album.
Next in line is a mellow musical composition. It is Vijay Bharadwaj and Gulzar again at the helm of things. ‘Koi To Ho’ is a love song passionately rendered by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. This is one of the best love tracks in the recent year. This shows Gulzar saab at his creative best. Even after the addition of rap and reggae this song sounds good.
Daler Mehndi is the man who gets to sing the last track of the album. Unlike his popular image Daler comes out with a soulful rendition. ‘Kajrare Nainawali’ is another soft track with a tinge of drum in the background. Poetic verses of Gulzar praise the beautiful, black eyes of the woman. This soothing number is done in Sufi style.
Even though this album lacks any potential hits it has enough scope for entertainment. This will silently creep in to your heart and will stay there forever.
