Movie Review : Chalo Ishq Ladaaye

Producer: Vijay Mehta
Director: Aziz Sejawal
Cast: Govinda, Rani Mukherjee
Music: Himesh Reshammiya

‘Chalo Ishq Ladaaye’ is a typical Govinda flick directed by Aziz Sajawal. With Govinda at the helm it’ll be hilarious, you can bet on that. The film is loosely inspired from the Hollywood flick ‘Strangers On A Train’ and the Bollywood version ‘Soch’.

Pappu (Govinda) lives with his dictating grandmother Dadi (Zohra Segal) who slaps him in every occasion and gives him a monthly pocket money of just Rs. 50. This doesn’t bother Pappu as much as her not allowing him to watch films of his favourite actress Sapna (Rani Mukerji). Sapna is a top and rich actress who looks forward to marry the well off Rahul (Sanjay Suri). Pappu loves Bobby (Mink), an orchestra singer. With a turn of events Pappu gets a chance to meet Sapna and they strike a deal. The deal leads to a murder. What’s in store for Pappu and Sapna forms the crux of the film.

Govinda’s and Johny Lever’s portion is truly hilarious in the film. But the film as a whole gets misleaded with the emergence of new sub-plot and the romantic angle of Govinda and Rani. Also there are glaring loopholes in the screenplay. Despite everything it is not digestible that a hero would murder his grandmother. Again how come Sanjay Suri who is considered to be dead makes a re-entry at the end. Also the climax is unbelievable. Director Aziz Sajawal takes too many liberties and builds the screenplay according to convenience.

Himesh Reshammiya's scores are nothing much to write about. Also the songs have been put in a wrong manner in the film. Cinematography by H. Laxminarayan is efficient. Dialogues are witty.

Govinda cakewalks through his role as there is nothing challenging he gets to do here.  Though he excels he could have handled the role better. Rani Mukerji is loud and goes over board at times. Zohra Segal is good. Sanjay Suri doesn’t get much to do. Mink is okay. Kader Khan and Gulshan Grover are as usual. Johny Lever is the best part of the enterprise.

The script is a major let down of the film. If you’re not an ardent Govinda fan there’s no reason why you should go to watch the film.
