Audio Review : Constricted musical aspect

Lyrics: Javed Akhtar and Mehboob

Calcutta Mail is a film by Sudhir Mishra which was wrapped up in the shelves for a long time.  The music was released along with the movie. Anand Raj Anand and Viju Shah have composed the music respectively. Javed Akhtar and Mehboob have done the lyrics. Though initially Tips had bagged the music rights, Zee Records took it over later. The movie is on a very unconventional storyline, how much the music enables justice to it, a review of the eight tracks will reveal.

‘Kahan Pe Meri Jaan Jaogi’ is the first track of the album. The music is peppy and punchy and Adnan Sami and Pamela Jain do admirably best. Anand Raj Anand has this track to his credit as he creates a racy composition with subtlety.

‘Pyaar Se Dekhle’ also goes to his glory. This calls for a hat trick by him. Sonu Nigam and Humshika give out a significant crooning in a seductive style. The song owes its acknowledgment to them.

Viju Shah takes his turn with ‘Bheeghi Bheeghi Hawa Hai’ with Shaan and Kavita Krishnamurthy at the vocals. The track is absolutely his style with techno music. The song is nothing innovative and poor lyrics mar its fate.

Meri Zindagi Meri Jaana has Alka Yagnik singing to it. She is good and gives her best. You get a real shock when you see Nitin Raikwar accompanying her. Rakesh Pundit also peeps at the later part. The song doesn’t have any appeal to foster its fate.

Pamela Jain pairs up with Udit Narayan for ‘Zindagi Hai Kya’ another treat by Anand Raj Anand. They give a wonderful rendition making it too pleasant to the ears.

Viju Shah, who hasn’t been remarkable till now, fails to provide anything good.  ‘Intezar Hai Tera’ with the fusion of Indian instruments and bass doesn’t turn up well too. This is a solo by Sukhwinder Singh. He doesn’t add any zeal to the track.

‘Tum Agar’ though appears much better. Javed Akhtar and Udit Narayan are the gem of the song. The composition is simple and it is undoubtedly one of the best songs of the album.

Sujata Trivedi with ‘Yeh Sahib Ajeeb Hain’ closes the album. The techno stuff and her equally gripping vocal make the song listenable. The lyrics are the worst, so don’t bother to give your ears to the words.

The album is not crafted well, and thus not the right value for your money. Neither the composers nor the lyricist are taut enough to breathe life into the album. So don’t expect much entertainment!
