Movie Review : Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne

Producer: Lakshman Bhatia
Director: Sangeet Sivan
Cast: Zayed Khan, Esha Deol, Gulshan Grover, Vijay Raaz, Rakhi Sawant, Salil Ankola
Music: Himesh Reshammiyya

‘Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne’ is awaited curiously being the first film of Sanjay Khan’s son Zayed Khan while Esha Deol plays the female lead. This is a Pantaloon Rave’s film directed by Sangeeth Sivan inspired by the 1963 flick ‘Charade’ and does entertain. Before the goings get started let’s make it clear that this film was touted as a thriller with twist, turns and punch, but the outcome is a worn-out stuff that is pretty mediocre. The film surely has some engrossing moments but not enough to make you seat on the edge.

The film begins in the milieu of Goa with Vijay (Zayed Khan) and Tina (Esha Deol) crossing roads with each other. Tina is asked to get back to Bangkok immediately after she receives the news that her uncle has been killed in an accident. Vijay assists her. Just after the funeral Tina gets a call from Indian embassy in Bangkok. Here she meets the official Deepak Chopra (Salil Ankola) who warns her that her late uncle was wanted in India for Rs.10 crore gold heist from the RBI. His other accomplices Om (Gulshan Grover), Sheena (Rakhi Sawant) and Chingaar (Vijay Raaz) are now free from Indian prisons and are in Bangkok. Soon these three people begin harassing her.

Tina looks up to Vijay for help but soon discovers that his actual self is Prakash Yogi and he is the brother of a fourth accomplice in the gold theft. Tina is caught in a web and she is followed everywhere as all of them think that she knows about the money although she is innocent about it. Vijay is the only person she trusts. But soon she learns from Deepak Chopra that the fourth accomplice didn’t have a brother. Vijay tells her that he is actually a crook who is also after the money but he is in love with her now and wants to protect out from the scavengers of money. The mystery deepens with the murder of Chingaar and Sheena, and Vijay and Om becomes the main suspect for Tina.

The thrill and interesting storyline keeps the suspense going and keep the viewers hooked to the screens. Good pace add to that as the progressions through the narrative move fast.  There are shortcomings in the narration and it looses grip on the way but you don’t waver. Follows an equally intriguing climax that makes the film worth a watch. However more emphasis was needed to the romance of Zayed and Esha. Zayed’s character especially has so many twists and turns that it tends to confuse the viewers.

Director Sangeeth Sivan has handled some parts of the film with aplomb. But he has failed to put the chilling impact that a film of such genre deserves. Himesh Reshammiya’s music is good but at places the song doesn’t gel well with the narration. T. Ramji’s cinematography is in the locales of Bangkok and Pattaya is superb and Sham Kaushal’s action is first rate.

This film launches Zayed Khan and as expectations ride high on him he doesn’t disappoint. He appears to be at ease in front of the camera and puts a correct face of expressions. He impresses with his act. Even with dancing and action he is well equipped. Esha Deol is competent enough and has a few great scenes. Gulshan Grover and Vijay Raaz do very well. Rakhi Sawant with oomph and glamour entertains. Salil Ankola is competent.

‘Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne’ is a mixed back of pluses and minuses. The prospects look good at the box office but the World Cup finale may strike a blow on the earnings of the film.
