The film Baazigar by Abbas - Mustan starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Shilpa Shetty was a blockbuster and so was the music by Anu Malik. It readily shot to success and Anu Malik found a new avatar gracing him. Though the plot was sufficient enough to mount the ladder of success, the music also played an inevitable part.
‘Baazigar O Baazigar’ the title track is an essence of melody. It is one of the most refined tracks to date. Alka does it with ease and Kumar Sanu with grace. It is an ear catcher from the very initials. The orchestration with the remarkable violin and saxophone piece makes it an excellent track. Nawab Arzoo’s lyrics are good and keep on with the flavour. It is a hit in the making.
‘Ae Mere Humsafar’ a love duet, in all aspect belongs to Vinod Rathod and Alka Yagnik for rendering a nuance. The catchy lyrics of Gauhar Kanpuri and the musical profundity of Anu Malik are well evident here. It is a pleasing song.
The musical journey gets better with ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen’. Though it’s basically a pick from an American pop tune, yet it works. Kumar Sanu ties the glory to make the song a craze. The track is a splendor with Dev Kohli’s words. Anu Malik has pulled up the song well though he doesn’t deserve any real credit for the track.
‘Kitaben Bahut Se’ yields with the nifty voice of Asha Bhosle accompanied by Vinod Rathod. The song is beguiling with regular lyrics by Rani Malik. The composition is nothing remarkable and the song goes along fine.
Vinod Rathod bags another track to his credit ‘Chuppa Na Bhi Nahin Aata’. His voice does a ritual task and gives a thoughtful tone to the song. The lyrics and the composition are good.
‘Tere Chehre Pe’ by Alka Yagnik is a teasing and pleasing song. Though the composition is a little bland yet it goes passable.
A duet by Alka and Vinod ‘Samajh Kar Chand’ closes the album. The singers do a graceful job and the lyrics of Zameer Kazmi pacify it. Anu Malik is taut with the composition and the song is duly enjoyable.
Baazigar accounts among the best work of Anu Malik. He keeps up the zeal and builds memorable tunes. Some tracks like ‘Baazigar O Baazigar’ and ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen’ have found a place down the memory lane. Catch up with the songs whenever you want to be embellished in a melodic hue.
