Audio Review : Unconquerable by time

Music: Roshan
Lyrics: Sahir Ludhianvi
Singers: Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Dey, Mohammad Rafi, Asha Bhosle,

Some people leave the world with unsung praises. Roshan, the music composer of the 60’s met some such fate. But it hardly does matter to him, for he has become eternal with the significant music he had created. He neither did strive for fame then, nor does he do now. Bahu Begum is among his most memorable piece of work. The lyrics of Sahir Ludhianvi decorate them making them unfathomable. Sahir Ludhianvi is also invariably at his best here.

‘Duniya Kare Sawaal’ is a fine rendition by Lata Mangeshkar. The pathos and grief gets reflected in the poetry of Sahir Ludhianvi. The track is on a philosophical note and Roshan with his taut composition steals the show. He has done an influential work. The track again repeats in another version as ‘Kya Jawab Den’ by Lata Mangeshkar again.

The Pakistani Punjab background of Roshan makes him an impeccable composer of Qawallis. The producers also preferred him for such works. In Bahu Begum there are two Qawallis. Manna Dey and Mohammad Rafi have rendered together ‘Dhoond Ke Laoon Kahan Se Main’ and ‘Vaqif Hoon Khoob Ishqade’ respectively.  The singers out do one another in the tracks.

‘Niklay Tay Kahan’ is a solo piece by Asha Bhosle and she claims the track with her vocal strength and style. The lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi is awesome and carries on the mirth of the track whole-heartedly. The composition though is nothing remarkable.

Asha Bhosle and Mohammad Rafi sing one of the best duets of their career ‘Hum Intezaar Karenge’. Their perfect singing resounds the track with an eternal bliss. The song has a cheerful zeal to it. The track repeats again with a pensive tone by Mohammad Rafi doing a solo version this time. Such romantic tracks are a rare piece today.

Mohammad Rafi wields another fantastic track ‘Log Kehte Hain’. He grips the song with his magnificent vocal aura. The song leaves a trail in the mind of the listener.

The Lata-Asha contest in musical prospective included Roshan’s ‘Pad Gaye Jhoole’ and they both emerge successful with the track going for a cuff. The moments of the song garnished with the voices of both the singers and the versatile composition makes it a memorable one.

To get imbued with masterpieces, you need to get your hands on this soundtrack.
