Toronto-based filmmaker Deepa Mehta who has exhibited a different side of her artistry with films like ‘Fire’ and ‘Earth’, goes for an altogether different take with ‘Bollywood Hollywood’. The film revolves around Bollywood (Indian) and Hollywood (Western) sensibilities and has nothing to do with filmmaking. It puts forth the diversity of the culture of the two places and is a romantic story of two people.

Rahul Seth (Rahul Khanna) is a sophisticated millionaire in love with his Caucasian girlfriend and pop star Kimberly (Jessica Pare). Rahul’s mother (Mausami Chatterjee) and grandmother (Dina Pathak) are orthodox minded and are not ready to accept the pair. Rahul believes that with his western attitude he would somehow convince them. But Kimberly dies in an accident and his wish remains unfulfilled.

Now Rahul’s mother wants him to marry a nice Indian girl and says that she won’t plan his sister’s wedding until he settles down and ties the knot. Rahul comes upon a clever idea to get through the situation and for that he takes the aid of Sue ‘Sunita’ Singh (Lisa Ray). She has to pretend to be his Indian bride-to-be. Sue hates Indian males as they are insensitive but accepts Rahul’s offer for money. Sue comes close to Rahul’s entire family. She starts sharing a good rapport with his grandmother, his sister, younger brother and also his chauffeur and emotionally gets attached to them. Everyone in the film including Rahul began to admire her.
