Director: Deepa Mehta Cast: Rahul Khanna, Lisa Ray, Dina Pathak, Moushimi Chatterjee, Kulbhushan Kharbanda Music: Sandeep Chowtha Singers: Sonu Nigam, Somya, Rajesh, Sunita Sarathy, Alisha Chinoy
Deepa Mehta seems to be going for a change with Bollywood Hollywood, the subtle Hollywood style comedy, starring Rahul Khanna, Lisa Ray, Dina Pathak, Moushimi Chatterjee, Kulbhushan Kharbanda. For the music, Sandeep Chowtha outdoes himself with some fresh tunes and vocals making the soundtrack a promising one. He justifiably suits the vigor of the film.
A parody ‘Chin Chin Choo’ by newcomer Sanjiv Wadhawni makes up the situational track. The music and the vocals add an unsullied touch.
A pensive track is ‘Sooni Hawa’ and Sonu Nigam and Somya croon it admirably. The orchestra is heavily loaded and so is the feel of the song. The lyrics serve the purpose well.
‘Krishna Hare’ a devotional track, appears in male and female solo version by Somya and Rajesh respectively. This is a different treat with lively instrumental and effective lyrics, getting it far away from the conventional ones.
‘Dil Kabootar’ is a Hollywood style Bollywood served track with a perky symphony. Sonu Nigam gives out a fine rendition throughout keeping with the zeal of the song. A time for ‘Salsa’, a cheerful Latin instrumental piece is also remarkable.
Another disco styled track fitting the bill is ‘If The Shoe Fits’ by Sunita Sarathy. The lyrics for the most part is English and Sunita’s diction and vocal strength covers it with ease. It’s more of a Hollywood track, though it’ll fine some prominent listeners in Bollywood too.
‘Soni Roop De’ is a Punjabi influenced track and Sonu Nigam and Alisha Chinoy outshines with it. Their vocals are apt and personify the jovial mood. The likable orchestra takes the song further. ‘Rang Rang Mein’ is another track that’ll creep on you by the same singer pair. This track has some Arabic modules to add to its credit. They are the best of the soundtrack and will make you go gaga.
To wrap up, Bollywood Hollywood is good but nothing more than that. Keeping the follow up of Deepa Mehta earlier movies, it falls short. The music is appealing and some experimentation lifts its prospects. Peppy tunes and techno style make it as enjoyable and cherishing.
