Director: K K Haridas Producer: Uthrattathi Films Cast: Cochin Haneefa, Jagathy, Indrans, Mani
Produced under the banner of Uthrattathi Films, the KK Haridas-directed C.I. Mahadevan Anchadi Naalinchu is intended to be a full-length entertainer which anyhow unfortunately falters at many places.
An explosion that has rocked the town is supposed to be the work of some terrorists. The issue has become a headache for politicians and ministers since it has created an uproar in the assembly. Something has to be done immediately. And the minister, who is hand in gloves with the terrorists, does a very clever thing to save his face. He calls in a very foolish inspector Mahadevan to look into the case. Mahadevan is a very interesting character with sort of a craze for films. He joins as the new circle inspector and gets as his colleagues head constable Salgunan and constable Dasappan. The developments that follow forms the plot of the film.
Cochin Haneefa is his usual self in the title role of CI Mahadevan. Shruthi plays the role of Dr Lekshmi, Mahadevan’s wife. All the others in the cast, including Jagathy Sreekumar (as head constable Salgunan), Harisri Ashokan (as constable Dasappan), Rajan P Dev (as Mahadevan’s father-in-law), Indrans (as the driver Narayanan) and Kalabhavan Mani (as Circle Inspector Antony) appear in stereotyped roles. Indrans and Kalabhavan Mani even overdo a bit. While the humour strikes at some places as spontaneous and lively, at other places it appears stale and distasteful. The scenarists Aneesh and Sadanan and the director Haridas could have taken more care of the handling of the plot. Lyrics by Gireesh Puthencherry set to tune by Bernie and Ignatious too fail to make an impact.
