There are many people in the world who live with dual or split personality. This film ‘Baaz – A Bird In Danger’ directed by Tinu Verma also treads similar territory.
Nobody knows about his ulterior motive until a winner of the beauty contest (Aditi Gowitrikar) gets brutally murdered by the serial killer. As a trademark he leaves a needle and dagger next to her dead body. Neha Chopra (Karisma) an interior designer by profession goes to Nainital to decorate the house of Mayor Jai Singh Dabral (Jackie Shroff). After she steps in Nainital she comes across three men who warn that her life is in danger. There is a Baaz, ready to prey Neha. Here she meets Raj Singh (Dino Morea) who is a painter and a photographer as well. He falls in love with Neha while saving her from a fatal accident and she too looses her heart to him. In the same time the eyes of Harshavardhan (Suniel Shetty), a resident of Nainital falls on Neha. Mayor Jai Singh Dabral, Raj Singh and Harshavardhan love her, but there is the Baaz among the three while the other two try to save her as she continues to fight for her life. Preeti Rastogi (Preeti Jhangiani) is a cop and in love with Suniel Shetty. She tries to help Neha but looses her life in the process. Only after Aditi’s sister revives from coma, the culprit is reveled.
The story of the film is interesting and the suspense continues to grow through the narration and is only revealed at the end. But in between romance Dino and Karisma Kapoor loosens the pace of the film after an exciting start. The focus of the film deviates and the narration comes to a halt. Prior to interval the story again gathers pace leading to one suspense filled moment to another. But during the second half the pace slackens again with some unwanted scenes. This part evades the audience to reach the climax and rather confuses the viewers.
The script by Shyam K. Goel has without its share of loopholes. Though the film has its moments, yet it doesn’t rise above mediocrity. There are many scenes in the film that go unexplained. The climax is worth mentioning. The background score (Ismail Darbar) adds to the punch of the suspense film. Director Tinu Verma does his job well though the screenplay doesn’t help him to reach great heights. There are thrills and captivating moments, but due to lack of pulsating moments, it is not a perfect suspense drama that can keep the viewers hooked to the screen. Music wise (Ismail Darbar) the film doesn’t have any impact on the ears of the viewers. Raju Kay Gee’s cinematography is good. But Keshav Naidu’s editing is weak.
Karisma Kapoor’s and Dino Morea’s performance is likeable. Dino delivers a performance better than his previous films. Jackie Shroff in the role of an eccentric Mayor does a good job. Sunil Shetty surprises with his commendable and consistent performance. Preeti Jhangiani and Suhasini Mulay are apt.
’Baaz – A Bird In Danger’ has a weak script. And due to this it will be unable to garner good business at the box office.
