Audio Review : Aashiq - Lacks Innovativeness

Producer: Shweta International
Director: Indra Kumar
Cast: Karisma Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Anupam Kher
Music: Sanjeev-Darshan
Singers: Alka Yagnik, Roop Kumar Rathod, Anuradha Paudwal, Udit Narayan

The last union of director Indra Kumar and Sanjeev Darshan proved good for both. Their movie ‘Mann’ did a fine job in the market, both musically and commercially. As they come together once again the expectations are high. Unfortunately, pressed by the weight of too much expectation they fail to deliver what is expected of them. Sameer’s uninspiring lyrics add to their woes. Starring Karishma Kapoor and Bobby Deol in the lead this movie has eight musical tracks.

The album opens up with the Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik rendition ‘Teri Aankhon Mein Mujhe’. Both singers smoothly and softly flow through this melodious number. Nice on ears this song comes easily on lips too.

Get ready to listen to the most successful musical jodi of 90’s Udit Narayan and Anuradha Paudwal croon a sweet and soft romantic number.  Musically ‘O Mere Dolna’ has a slight edge over its predecessor. Just enjoy this musical melody.

Then come the magical voiced Roop Kuamar Rathod and Alka Yagnik. Their rendition ‘Aashiq Mujhe Aashiq’ takes you along with its fluffy musical waves.  Both the singers fare well in this track. Roop Kumar Rathod impresses us with his perfect rendition while Alka Yagnik captures our heart with her voice range.

After all these soft and melodious tracks the mood suddenly shifts to pep and vibrancy. And no prize for guessing who comes behind the mike. The ever-vivacious Udit Narayan joins Alka for this bubbly song ‘Gori Tera Nakhara’. This sounds like a straight lift from the A.R.Rehman composition ‘Latka’ from the movie ‘Hindustani’.

Another nice musical outing by Udit and Alka. They hold the mike for ‘Tum Kya Jaano’. Once again Sanjeev Darshan comes up with an ear friendly musical score. It may not make any great ripples in the music market. But it lingers in our mind for days to come.

Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik go solo towards the end of the album. Alka Yagnik sing the self-praising ‘Gore Gore Gaal Mere’ while Udit Narayan talks about their unfathomable popularity through these lines ‘Charche Hain Hamare’. Enjoyable to the core this song looks like a Bappi Lahiri composition from the swinging eighties.

Udit Narayan wraps up the album with ‘Chhed Do’. This song has no great shakes.  Udit Narayan just breezes through this track.

Unfortunately this time Indra Kumar and Sanjeev Darshan are not able to repeat the musical success. Compared to ‘Mann’ this album has nothing to offer. It doesn’t even have a single number that stands out. On the whole this album is good to hear, but not a great buy.
