‘23rd March 1931, Shaheed’ is a periodic film on the life and martyrdom of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. Directed by Guddu Dhanoa the film has Bobby Deol essaying the role of Bhagat Singh. Playing revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad is Sunny Deol. Aishwarya Rai and Rahul Dev are in special appearance.
The drama unveils during pre-independence Lahore. Bhagat Singh lives in an insolvent place where many other freedom fighters live in disguise. Young Bhagat Singh comes through the concept of freedom struggle from his Uncle. Jallianwalla Bagh carnage by the British also leaves a deep impression in his mind. Grieved by the sight he fills his lunchbox with the bloodstained soil from the place and swears to battle the British supremacy. Bhaghat Singh grows up to be an intelligent man also good in academics. His fight from freedom begins with Mahatma Gandhi’s non-cooperation movement in 1921. Being left disillusioned he decides to do something by himself and leaves his mother (Amrita Singh) and beloved (Aishwarya Rai) to join the revolutionary party of Chandrashekhar Azad (Sunny Deol). Follows the boycott movement against the Simon Commission in Lahore where he and his comrades participate. British inspector Scott orders a lathi-charge and leader Lala Lajpat Rai gets badly injured. This aggression by the British leads to the fury of Chandrashekhar Azad, Sukhdev (Rahul Dev) and Rajguru and they decide to revenge inspector Scott but mistakenly kill inspector Sanders. They also execute the bombing in the National Assembly. Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru are arrested and sentenced to death by the British court. On 23rd March 1931 Bhagat Singh and his two comrades are hanged.
