Audio Review : 23 March 1931 Shaheed - An Intense and Passionate Album

Producer: Sunny Super Sound
Director: Guddu Dhanoa
Cast: Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Aishwarya Rai, Amrita Singh
Music: Anand Raj Anand

This movie based on Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s life stars Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Aishwarya Rai and Amrita Singh. Sunny Super Sound is the producer of this patriotic flick. Guddu Dhanao directs it. Dev Kohli writes whereas Anand Raj Anand scores the music.

The album opens up with a romantic number ‘Jogiya Ve’. Alka Yagnik effectively renders this Punjabi flavored romantic number. Anand Raj Anand’s music once again captures the mood and feel of the land of wheat.

‘Mere Rang De Basanti Chola’ a song sung by Bhagat Singh and his associates in jail comes next. From Manoj Kumar’s ‘Shaheed’ to ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ all have this song. This passionate patriotic number retains its original feel through out the track. It has already made inroads to the hearts of the music buffs.

‘Pagadi Sambhal Jatta’ impresses you with its traditional Punjabi flavor. Highly energetic bhangra music makes the prelude of this song. On the whole it makes for a good patriotic bhangra number.

The same nationalistic mood continues throughout this album. ‘Aye Watan’, this Dev Kohli verse exudes with patriotic fervor. Set as a marching number, its background arrangement comprises of the traditional march past music.

Another zealous patriotic number follows. Written by Ram Prasad Bismil ‘Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna’ is the most ardent patriotic number ever to fall on your ears. Anand Raj Anand boosts its fervent energy with heavy beats and loud vocals. This song crooned by Bhagat Singh and his associates on their way to gallows definitely moves your heart.

The martyrs are offering their countrymen a good and free life ahead with ‘Khush Raho’. The overzealous chant of ‘Vande Mataram’ makes the prelude of this number. Even though short in duration this number definitely creates an impact on the minds of moviegoers.

‘Watanprasthonki’ makes you familiar with the thoughts and feelings of all those young freedom fighters. This short track that comes as a situational number in the movie makes you change your outlook on independence and freedom.

The last song of this album ‘Deshnu Chalo’ urges Indians to come forward to guard our country from the intruders. Once again Anand Raj Anand makes you listen this song with his loud and captivating musical arrangement. Even now this patriotic number has its relevance.

This album may not cater to the tastes of all genres of music lovers. But this is going to be a feast for those who love patriotic numbers. By and large Anand Raj Anand has retained the original flavor of these patriotic numbers. By adding a note here and there he has made it look trendy and modern. On the whole these songs are powerful enough to touch and move your heart.  Those who love patriotic numbers just go and get a copy of this album.
