Vipul Shah makes his bollywood entry in style with a multi starrer ‘Ankhen’. This film is about a theft masterminded by Big B. Three blind men assist him in this risky endeavor. The movie as well as its music cannot be termed as a classic. But it is definitely novel.
To our surprise Big B kick starts the album by rapping in his characteristic base voice. Even though we have heard him rap many a time this talented actor succeeds in amusing us again. Sonu Nigam and Remo Fernandez join him later. Set in tune by Adesh Shrivastava this techno soliloquy rocks.
Adesh comes behind the mike for the next song ‘Gustakhiyaan’ where he is amply supported by the sultry voiced Vasundhara Das. With their enthusiastic singing both the singers keep up the tempo of the first track.
After two of the pacy tracks things get to slow down with the Sonu, Alka Yagnik number ‘Kuch Kasme’. After a long gap the gifted composer duo Jatin-Lalit gets back in to their usual self. Accompanied by Praveen Bharadwaj’s poetic verses this song loosens the chords of your heart a bit.
Next comes the peppy musical composition ‘All The Best’ in Goan Rocker Remo Fernandez’s voice. He croons this high voltage dance number in his characteristic style. This live wire track is best suited for a Saturday night out.
‘Phatela Jeb’ is a tapori number crooned by Adesh, Nitin Raikwar and Arun Bakshi. All the three composers come together for this track. The music comes close to the ‘Excuse Me’ song from N.Chandra flick ‘Style’.
Alka Yagnik song ‘Chalka Chalka’ is a sensuous sounding number where Alka draws all your attention to her singing. As result you don’t get much of the double meaning lyrics. In olden days this song might have gone to the cuckoo of India Asha Bhonsle. This number has the potential to get hotter after the release of the movie.
‘Nazar Pe Teri’ is a bouncy and bubbly track in the voice of Kavita Krishnamurthy and Udit Narayan. This peppy mix of Indian and Western music compels you to hit the dance floor. With its nice and effervescent music arrangement this Jatin- Lalit track may linger on your lips for days to come.
All in all, music of ‘Aankhen’ offers us a month long musical entertainment. Even though it lacks a potential hit number, it has the ability to entertain us. So if you love experimental music, just go and get this album.
