Audio Review : Talaash - Musically Inspired Creation

Producer: Pahlaj Nihalani
Director: Suneel Darshan
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor
Music: Sanjeev Darshan
Singers: Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Sriram, Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Shaan

After enjoying two hits together Suneel Darshan and Akshay Kumar have teamed up once again for a new venture ‘Talaash’. As the name suggests this is a story about a search, a brother’s search for his long lost sister. Long back we had a popular film based on the same subject ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’. This Dev Anand- Zeenat Aman starrer became a huge hit. Its popular sound tracks still haunt our ears.

Alka Yagnik starts off the album with a melodious number ‘Zindagi Se Jung’. Philosophical in nature this song fails to create any effect on the listeners mind. With such plain and ordinary lyrics it is not possible to live up to the expectation of the audience. Musically it sounds like a tune borrowed from the popular sound tracks of 80’s.

‘Masoom Chehra’ is another musical let down by Sanjeev Darshan. This has two solo versions. Alka Yagnik lends her voice for one and Kumar Shanu for the other. Even with these two seasoned vocalists behind the mike, this song could not make any impact on the hearts of the music lovers. Once again Sameer’s lyrics sound stale and done with.

Unfortunately Sanjeev Darshan’s bhagra number ‘Bhangra Pale’ sounds too timid to raise our spirits. Even the high-spirited rendition of bubbly Udit Narayan and Anuradha Sriram fails to energize this Punjabi number. There is nothing to rave about this absolute musical and lyrical downer.

The same holds good for the next track ‘Rabba Pyaar Se Milade’. Vasundhara Das tries her best to enliven this number, but its dead lyrics and music are too old to make a come back.

‘Yaar Badal Na Jaana’ is one of the best tracks of this album. Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik come together for this melodious number. Even though the music sounds like a Nadeem –Shravan number, this song makes for a good hear.

Shaan joins Alka Yagnik for this romantic track. Rendition wise ‘Tune Kaha Jab Se Haan’ is superior, but unfortunately unimaginative music and lyrics pull it down.

‘Baaga Maa Jab Mor Bole’ sounds like a Rajastani folk song. It reminds you of the popular Rajastani number from ‘Lamhe’ ‘Morni Baaga Mein’. This song stands apart from the group of plain and ordinary numbers.

The last song of this album ‘Dil Le Gaya Pardeshi’ sounds good even though it bears a resemblance to the Uttam Singh number ‘Kab Tak Chup Baithe’ from ‘Dil To Paagal Hai’.

By and large this album can be termed as an inspired creation. You can clearly see the influence of Nadeem- Shravan and Anu Malik throughout this album. ‘Tune Kahan Jab Se Haan’ is the only original Sanjeev Darshan creation.
