‘Tere Naam’ has an unusual caption ‘Unfortunately a true love story’. This is where the catch is. This Salman- Bhoomika starrer is rumored to be the real story of one of the lead characters associated with this movie. Himesh Reshammiyya who happens to be the favourite composer of Salman Khan scores music. Himesh’s favourite man Sameer takes care of the lyrics department.
As this movie is about the unfortunate state of love almost all the tracks in this album are sad in tone. The sad saga starts with Udit Narayan- Alka Yagnik number ‘Tere Naam’. With its gripping music this title track has already made a mark in the current Bollywood music countdowns. Sameer’s evocative lyrics give this high- soaring musical melody a nice push. Alka Yagnik croons a solo version of the same track followed by Udit Narayan’s sad solo version.
‘Odhni’ is a nice Salman number in the voice of Udit Narayan. Alka Yagnik croons the female part of this song. This song starts like the oldie ‘Ghungroo Toot Gaye’. On the whole this nicely choreographed track may climb up the musical charts.
After all those sad and slow tracks it is the turn of a jazzy number ‘O Jaana’. Udit Narayan, Kamaal, KK, Shaan and Alka Yagnik render this fast –paced track. The energetic rendition of the singer group adds pep to this song. Sameer’s lyrics go well with the mood of the song.
With ‘Tune Saath Jo Mera Choda’ the mood once again changes from happy to sad. Udit Narayan and Raghav croon this extremely mournful track. Their rendition reminds you of Altaf Raja and Atta Ullah Khan. This is not an easy track to hum around. Udit Narayan croons a shorter version of the same song in the later part of the album
After hearing to all these mournful tracks your heart might have got heavy. So here is a prayer song to smoothen your heartbeats. ‘Man Basia’ is uniquely composed bhajan track that can soothe you from within. Alka Yagnik croons this song in a virtually silent atmosphere. A nice track to relax tensed up mind.
But your mental calm does not last more than a minute because Himesh and Sameer come out with another painful number. ‘Kyon Kisi Ko’ has a man wailing about his unfaithful love. It comes close to the old Rajesh Khanna number ‘Humse Kya Bhool Hui’ in both look and feel. Udit Narayan croons this average track.
If you want to listen Sameer at his poetical best, just give an ear to the track ‘Chand’. Even though it is the usual stuff, comparing the ladylove to moon, yet it impresses you with its sweet and soft musical arrangement.
‘Tumse Milna’ is a nice and simple song. These lines go straight down your heart. Udit Narayan with his expressive rendition gives this song a double impact. Alka Yagnik supports him well. Musically it comes close to ‘Is Kadar Pyaar Hai’ from Sonu Nigam’s personal album ‘Deewana’. On the whole this is a good hear in a lone long drive.
Last track of the album ‘Lagan Lagi’ has nothing new to offer. This Sajid- Wajid composition follows the same old path. Lyricist Jalees Sherwani too tries nothing out of the world to excite you. By and large this is a fine and enjoyable track.
Musically this new Salman Khan starrer has nothing new to offer. The pick of the album are ‘Tere Naam’ and ‘Tumse Milna’. These two songs are already on their way to popularity. Those who love mournful melodies should go for this album.
