After acting in a number of popular tele-serials Karan Razdan shifts his focus onto big screen. His first directorial venture ‘Roshni’ has music by Anand-Milind. Ibrahim Ashq is the lyricist. Bikram Saluja, Kiran Zaveria and Milind Soman play vital roles in this love triangle.
‘Jaanu Mere Jaanu’ starts off the proceedings. Alka Yagnik and Kumar Shanu hold the mike for this sweet and simple romantic melody. Surprisingly Alka is the only female voice in this album. So she gets to sing the maximum number of songs. Music is typical Anand-Milind. We flow smoothly down this sweet and soft melodious number.
Ditto for ‘Chand Ki Chandni’. Kumar Shanu comes behind the mike for this romantic track. He puts his heart out for this song. His passionate rendition takes this track to a completely new emotional terrain. As a result this turns out to be the best track of the album. Ibrahim Ashq’s lyrics are the lifeline of this number.
Hariharan impresses you with his soft and silky voice in this bidai number ‘Chale Saath Phere Lekar’. Alka Yagnik lends her voice for the female protagonist. This song takes us closer to the immortal compositions of gifted composer pair Lakshmikant- Pyaarelal. Once again Ibrahim Ashq provides us with some great lyrics to chew upon. In total this song makes for a good hear.
Once again Kumar Shanu comes behind the mike with ‘Jeena Hai Tere Yaadon Mein’. This sweet and short track is an extension of the title song. It sounds more like a situational number. Kumar Shanu does his part well. So does Anand- Milind.
‘Zindagi Ke Suhanee Haseen’ is a love duet in the voice of Kumar Shanu and Alka Yagnik. Both these seasoned singers excel in their rendition. This ear pleasing music is one that you would like to sing to your valentine. Ibrahim Ashq’s lyrics are praiseworthy.
The whole atmosphere gets lively with the entry of Udit Narayan. He lends his voice over an energetic composition ‘Maine Tujhe Jaan Diya’. Alka Yagnik supports him well in his rendition. This swift moving, vibrant number comes close to dholak numbers of 80’s. But Anand- Milind gives this song a contemporary make over with their trendy and modern musical arrangement.
The same mood continues with ‘Main To Bas Teri Hoon’. Udit Narayan’s rendition is the saving grace of this track. Hema Sardesai is not in her competent self. For the first time in this album Anand-Milind falls back to their old musical style. Their attempt to weave techno music over the traditional sounding dholak and sitar takes them nowhere. In short, this song is a major let down by the masters of melody. ‘Sajna Harjai’ an enthusiastic fusion number wraps up this album. Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik lend their voice to this vivacious techno track. Alka Yagnik’s high-spirited rendition steals the show. Sonu Nigam is relegated to second position. With its bhangra styled musical arrangement this song is going to catch up with the young party going generation soon.
On the whole, ‘Roshni’ springs up a surprise for music lovers. This predominantly melodious album soars high on its ear pleasing and heartwarming music. A must buy for all those who love soothing melody.
