Movie Review : Raju Chacha (2000)

Producer: Devgan Films
Director: Anil Devgan
Cast: Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Rishi Kapoor, Johny Lever, Tiku Talsania, Govind Namdeo,
Music: Jatin-Lalit

Alas a film for the kids. A fairytale story to keep the kids engrossed with great special effects and mind-blowing visuals. The only obstacle for the kids would be the lengthy romantic part.

The fairytale story begins with 'Sound of Music' and ends with 'Home Alone'. Hence you have a father, Sidhant Rai with three kids while their mummy has lest for the heaven. Then you have Anna, a governess, an orphan who has the guts to handle such brats. Then you have a bunch of relatives who want to take away the fairytale property of Sidhant, while the kids decide to fight back the 'Home Alone' way.

Woven within this is the character of Shekhar, a conman. Shekhar meets Anna and the romance comes alive on the screen, leaving the children's film for a while only to come back to it with when the villains go unleased after the kids.

Shekhar becomes the saviour of the kids as an imposter of their uncle, Raju Chacha, hence the title. In the end the villains are defeated and Raju Chacha wins the battle against the evil forces and robs Anna's heart once again. Thus ends the fairytale story with a happy ending.

This happy ending has cost the producer, Ajay Devgan very dear. The total amount of money drolled into this project, was last reported to be 29 crore and it shows on the screen.

The graphics and effects to enhance the story telling is just great. Performance wise, each and every actor has contributed and justified their roles. The three kids are very lovely and the pranks cute to keep you as well as the kids on the edge of the seat. The music for the film is not very appealing either to the kids or to grown-ups, the lengthy romance scenes may make the kids uncomfortable.

Debutant director Anil Devgan has surely proved his point by canning a film that is pleasant for family viewing.

All in all, Raju Chacha is a great film for the kids with a perfectly timed release.
