Based on the famous novel by Amrita Pritam, Pinjar portrays the full scale riots and human suffering during the Indo-Pakistan partition.
It was during that time when millions of families lost their loved ones.
Focusing on the Punjab community, the film shows how children were kidnapped and brutally murdered.
Whilst the men were burnt alive, the women were raped.
One such woman is Puro (Urmila Matondkar) who chooses to change the direction of her life after the incident.
She decides to change what the partition has done to her community.
On the other hand, there is Rashid (Manoj Bajpai). He committed a murder and now tries to redeem himself.
Many other victims of circumstances are portrayed with compassion in this film.
These include Ramchand (Sanjay Suri),a poet who has lost his family and Trilok (Priyanshu) who tries to keep his family united during the thick of this political storm.
Musical score is given by Uttam Singh who uses Punjabi folk to blend with the storyline.
Pakistani poetess, Zehra Nigah and Gulzar have composed the lyrics.
Just like any other period film, Pinjar is also produced on a grand and lavish scale with no expenses spared whether its in the technical or art departments.
Pinjar is all set to throw Urmila Matondkar’s film career into the spotlight one more time.
Don’t be surprised if she takes over the reign from the current Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai at this year's prestigious Filmfare Awards!
